College -- the important four-year period in which a student grows in knowledge of their preferred career and steeps in new and different experiences. It is important for me to leave college with a close community, a better knowledge of my future job, and the experience of studying abroad. These three things would help me in post--school life, and also give me vivid memories. It is essential for me to leave college with a close community. Having grown up in a small community, I am looking for this in a small school as opposed to a larger university. In s small college, a student is able to find a group of friends during the first few days, making for a comforting sense of inclusion. Students can also benefit from one-on-one interaction with professors and faculty members. This is a huge benefit as college courses are more rigorous than high school courses. To be able to contact a professor with questions is an essential tool for success in college. The college I attend must have a strong program for the field I want to enter. A program that not only has the necessary courses, but also provides experience and tips from people already working in the field. Learning is more than just a classroom, so the college I choose must prepare me for what my job will really be like, and how to be successful in it. This would better prepare me, and give me realistic impressions of that job, helping me to determine if I would enjoy that particular career. An exceptional study abroad program is the last thing I am looking for in college. Traveling to a foreign country would give me a great understanding of different cultures, people, governments, and customs than my own. A program that goes to France would be best, giving me a taste of France firsthand through living there for a semester. This would be a great asset, because I would not only learn things, but I would also get to see things, such as the Eiffel

Only a visit to the campus can really tell you if it is right.…

the second big problem, however, is that I think we should get more cynical than Bruenig does. If the level of subsidy were increased enough to eliminate tuition, the faculty and administrators of public universities would still thirst for more money. A logical place to raise the money would be—tuition. After all, a college degree is a valuable commodity. And the kids in college are mostly from families with above-average incomes. Having eliminated tuition, the tuition would simply come back. In exchange, you'd get more tenure-track faculty, more administrators, more weird perks for university presidents, nicer facilities, etc.…

Small colleges have several advantages. First of all, small colleges have small class sizes. Unlike some large colleges where you can find more than 40 students in one class, small colleges only have around 10-15 students in one class. Where I attend now, I have 14 classmates. I am able to have deeper discussions with my classmates and teacher. There is a real connection with a smaller class, especially when you have to do group assignment. As the classes are small, all the students can know each other well and even become friends. Students also can have a friendly atmosphere and feel comfortable in colleges as like as their home. In addition, small colleges have the low teacher-to-student ratio. For example, your teachers get to know your names, strengths and weaknesses. They are available all the time to help every student because the student body in class is small in number. Also, the teachers can help you tailor your courses to your interests. Not only they can help you in school, they might be the key to your opportunities outside of school. This can have interactions between teachers and students. Moreover, small colleges are typically easy to navigate. At small colleges, there are fewer buildings and the buildings are closer in distance. Students can change classes easily and save their time. It is nearly impossible to get lost in the campus. To conclude, small colleges have small class sizes, low teacher-to-student ratio and typically easy to navigate.…

I had been promised that, if I chose to take APALI, I would be in for a life-changing experience. Through being active in student leadership at De Anza College, I had come across many APALI alumni who all had nothing but good to say about the program. Though most identified as API, there were several, non- API’s who told me that the things that they learned in APALI transcended race. Skeptical, yet curious, I decided to enroll my last quarter at De Anza. The first day, though fun, did little to ease my cynicism. I did not know what I would gain from the experience. As I looked around the classroom the first day, all I saw were young faces. A good majority of the class was comprised of high school students, ones who reminded me of the Asian kids my senior year who would simultaneously giggle at their bad driving and good grades, while continuing to ostracize my hijab wearing, non-Asian self. I was not eager to get to know people, and I became less and less sure of my APALI experience.…
