Today, people have mixed feelings about technology’s role in society. One survey conducted through various forms of social media found that 68 percent of people believe that today’s society relies too much on technology (personal communication, March 29, 2017). However, everything from a simple pen to the latest iPhone are all some form of technology. Technology has grown exponentially in the past 100 years. For example, doctors are now able to diagnose a patient’s condition using video calling and teachers are now using the latest technology to help educate the future generations. The world will keep advancing on the same technological path; therefore, students must be surrounded by the growing advancements in technology to be successful in the workplace. In the social media survey (personal communication, March 29, 2017), 93 percent of respondents said that technology based learning is beneficial to schools. However, this technology is not to replace teachers themselves. The technology should only be used to teach students the tools used in jobs. For example, the use of PowerPoint for presentations or Excel for spreadsheets in labs will all be useful when working in the field.
