Double Bubble Conundrum Lab Problem: How can you prove there is 4 grams of sugar in the gum? Hypothesis: If you chew the gum until the flavors completely gone then the sugar will dissolve and the gum will weigh less. Procedure: 1.) Take the gum out of wrapper 2.) Record observations about the gum and the ingredients 3.) Weigh the gum and wrapper separately 4.) Write down calculations 5.) Chew the gum until the flavor is completely gone 6.) Take the chewed gum, place in wrapper and weigh once more 7.) Write down the calculations and subtract the wrappers weight from the answer Data Collection and Analysis: Ingredients for the gum include cholesterol, sugar, corn syrup, gum base, high fructose, corn starch, and artificial colors/flavors. Once you chew the gum the 4 grams of sugar will dissolve when you chew the gum and the flavors gone. If you take both weights of the gum before and after there should be 4 grams less of weight (subtracting weight of wrapper) which proves there is 4 grams of sugar in the gum. Materials: 1 piece of double bubble gum, scale, writing utensil Independent Variable: The chewing of the gum Dependent Variable: How much sugar is dissolved out of the gum Constant: Whoever is chewing the gum needs to remain the same. How much and how fast you chew the gum. Keeping your mouth closed while chewing the gum. The partner your working with during the experiment. Using only 1 piece of double bubble gum and using the same scale for the experiment Control Group: Conclusion: Needed to prove how there is 4 grams of sugar in one piece of
