Adam Cheng Effect
Adam in The Greed of Man

How the omen begins…
The tongue-in-cheek Adam Cheng Effect was first mentioned in the media in late
90s. It was the time when the Hang Seng Index slumped 11% after TVB began to broadcast the TV series Cold Blood Warm Heart on 2 February 1996, with Hong
Kong TV star Adam Cheng being the lead actor. People started to accuse Adam’s shows for the poor stock market performance, and correlated it with other crashes, especially the one in late 1992 – Adam played the role of the most crazy market

Even though no logical reasons could be found, the predictive power of the “Adam

Cheng” effect is mysteriously accurate – whenever Adam plays in a TV series over the past 12 years, the stock market always falls, ranging from 0.1% to 25%! Also, there were only twice that the HSI ended higher than his show began!
Many people thought that Adam’s

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) affects most public and private employment. The act requires employers to pay employees, who are not otherwise exempt, at least the federal minimum wage and overtime pay for more than 40 hours worked in a given workweek. The FLSA was originally established in 1934, but has been amended several times in order to make changes to the minimum wage requirements. The issue at hand is whether the employee should be compensated for the 36 hours of overtime associated with working out and conditioning and if on call time should be counted as overtime as well. I believe that despite the fact that being a member of SWAT requires great conditioning, the time used at the gym should not count as hours worked and thus should not be paid out as overtime. The employer most likely used the primary duty test in which they determined the primary duty of the job is not exercising in the gym,…

The Stock Market Crash, also know as Black Tuesday, was the most important factor that led to the Great Depression. In the late 1920s the stock prices had gains of 25 percent, 38 percent in 1938, and 30 percent until late 1929. Followed by these gains was the crash in October of 1929 when the stock price declined immensely before bottoming out in 1929. Overall the total deficit during the four year period from 1929 to 1932 was 82 percent. The stock market crash caused an accelerated decline in the economic output in the United States for a few reasons. First, with the decline in stock prices close to $20 billion, household wealth was reduced per person. Second, the stock prices reduced the market value for new capital goods, meaning a reduction…

FLSA requires observance with payment of minimum wage. The federal minimum wage according to the US department of Labor "for covered nonexempt employees is $5.15 per hour. The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Many states also have minimum wage laws. Where an employee is subject to both the state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher of the two minimum wages." (www.dol.gov) FLSA does not take the place of any state or local laws that are more favorable to employees. For Example, in the state of California, minimum wage is 6.75/hour, so the employee would profit from taking the larger of the two hourly wages. The FLSA explains "no employer shall employ any of his employees for a workweek longer than forty hours unless such employee receives compensation for his employment in excess of [forty] hours . . . at a rate not less than one and one-half times the regular rate at which he is employed." (Law enforcement…

On October 24, 1929 the U.S stock market went into a free fall. The investors traded about sixteen million shares on the New York Exchange in a single day. About fourteen billion dollars were lost, wiping out thousands of investors. The stock tickers ran hours behind schedule since the machines couldn’t handle the amount of trading taking place at one time. In addition, everyone was affected by the collapse, and they had to start from scratch. Many people who lived in the cities had to survive in the streets searching for a job to make a little money. The unemployment rate would eventually approach thirty percent of the workforce; the highest it’s ever been.…

The examples of animism that relates to hunting and agriculture were that hunting was a religious pursuit in which the hunter saw the animal as a fellow creature with a similar spirit, therefore a hunter prayed to the spirit of the animal before the hunt. only those animals that were absolutely needed were killed. The crash of the stock market, on October 29th, 1929 – (known as black Tuesday), wiped out most of the Americans’ savings. It was the time of prosperity when the Americans were first introduced to stocks, and they didn’t know any better, they knew nothing about diversification or financial planning. They had a new toy which they were happy with and enjoyed, until the crash hit and cleared out all their investments. Many banks also had their depositors’ money invested in stocks, when the stock market crash came about, all those banks failed! Subsequently, the people that did not invest money in stocks lost their money in the failing banks, in addition to those who lost everything in the stock market. To make things worse, the government did not take firm decisions concerning this. The government believed it was okay to let the economy go all the way down as there is nowhere else for it to go but up. That was true, but how long was it going to take to get back up?…
