6.2.1. General Characteristics of district

Ahmednagar district, which is known to be the ‘Place of Saints’, is located between Pune and Aurangabad on road line and between Manmad and Daund on railway line. It is the largest district in area in Maharashtra comprising 14taluka places. Ahmednagar district is on the fore-front in co-operative movement in the country owing to the strong presence of 16 Sugar factories, distilleries, spinning mills, paper mills, milk federation, dairy etc. in the co-operative sector and a few co-operative industrial estates. DEMOGRAPHICAL PROFILE OF DISTRICT
To accelerate all other resources, need of manpower is necessary. From the human resource point of view the district equipped with required skilled and unskilled manpower. The people of district able to meet current and future manpower need of organizations. From the people engaged in large scale units, it can be said that, there are near about 94% supervisory level local employees are working with establishments. Whereas 96% non-supervisory level local employees fulfilling the needs of establishments. Hence district’s population is fulfilling the skilled and unskilled employee’s need of the large scale organizations.
Increasing higher educational institutes and healthy learning environment gives opportunity to local people for developing their competencies. In tune with growing industrialization; industrial workers are developing themselves with the help of organizations. Updating the skills and improving knowledge is the necessity of human being in today’s world. In this competitive arena learning companies are becoming conscious to provide training to employees for developing their technical skills, behavior skills and other specialize skills.

In the previous census of India 2001, Ahmednagar District recorded increase of 19.80 percent to its population compared to 1991.
Ahmednagar District Density
The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that density of Ahmednagar district for 2011 is 266 people per sq. km. In 2001, Ahmednagar district density was at 237 people per sq. km. Ahmednagar district administers 17,048 square kilometers of areas.
Ahmednagar Literacy Rate
Average literacy rate of Ahmednagar in 2011 were 79.05 compared to 75.30 of 2001. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy were 86.82 and 70.89 respectively. For 2001 census, same figures stood at 85.70 and 64.35 in Ahmednagar District. Total literate in Ahmednagar District were 3,151,890 of which male and female were 1,773,355 and 1,378,535 respectively. In 2001, Ahmednagar District had 2,598,597 in its district.
Ahmednagar Sex Ratio
With regards to Sex Ratio in Ahmednagar, it stood at 939 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 940. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In 2011 census, child sex ratio is 852 girls per 1000 boys compared to figure of 884 girls per 1000 boys of 2001 census
