3. THE PURPOSE OF PMS
This report is to provide relevant information on local ceramic sanitary ware market in order to increase Malaysian market share in Korea by featuring the current trend and future prospects.

4. ROK’S GLOBAL TRADE OF CERAMIC SANITARY WARE
In 2006, Korea’s global exports of ceramic sanitary ware (HS: 691010) amounted to US$2.84 million, down by 8.3 percent from 2005.

In the first nine months of 2007, Korea’s global exports recorded US$ 2.29 million, up 5.2% from the corresponding period of 2006.

Based on 2007(1-9) period, top 5 global export markets for Korea included Kazakhstan, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, and China. During the period, Korea’s total exports showed strength in other ceramic sanitary ware including bidet and similar items, accounting for 76.6% market share followed by water closet pans, wash basins, urinals, and baths.

Meanwhile, in 2006, Korea’s global imports of ceramic sanitary ware amounted to US$56.91 million, up 17.2% from 2005.

During the first nine months of 2007, Korea’s total imports reached US$50.43 million, up 22.9% compared with the same period of 2006. During the observed period, water closet pans ranked the 1st in importation of Korea’s total ceramic sanitary ware, accounting for 68.4% of market share followed by wash basins, other sanitary ware, urinals, and baths.

Based on the same period 2007(1-9), top 5 suppliers for Korean market were China, Thailand, Italy, Japan and Norway. Malaysia ranked the 25th largest source of import for local market, accounting for 0.01% market share in Korea.
