    U-High Creek Quality

The water quality of the U-High creek was excellent because it had pollution sensitive micro-invertebrates. However, not all creeks are this way. One example of humans polluting creeks includes farmers’ pesticides and fertilizers that soak through the ground and travel into the water (Lenntech, 1998-2016). These materials hold a lot of phosphorus and nitrogen which causes a surplus of algae. If this occurs, then the water could turn green (causing a low aesthetic value) and also once it breaks down, its’ bacteria will steal away the dissolved oxygen that the fish need to survive. Another example is the runoff of factory waste (Lenntech, 1998-2016). This waste brings toxins that could kill all the organisms and animals that interact with the…

In this experiment water quality and contamination of groundwater were investigated. First, I will observe the effects that many pollutants have on groundwater. I predict that in this experiment the oil and vinegar will create the largest quality of contamination to the water, while the laundry detergent will just create a bad smell to it. Considering the smells and thickness to these ingredients I think that it will cause the water quality to have a bad smell and cause the water to be very cloudy. Once filtering the contaminated water, the water will be clear and purified. Second, I will experiment water treatment and filtering. I predict that once the contaminated water is treated and filtered that it will leave me with little or no contamination in it. Then for the last experiment, I will determine the difference between bottled water and tap water to discover any contamination. I predict that the tap water will be the most contaminated and with the most chemicals in it, while the bottled waters; Dasani and Fiji will be completely filtered and free of any chemicals.…

Scientists are trying to come up with ways to combat plastic pollution. A team of Japanese researchers described a species of bacteria that can break the molecular bonds of one of the world’s most-used plastics - polyethylene terephthalate, also known as PET or polyester. The Japanese research team sifted through hundreds of samples of PET pollution before finding a colony of organisms that use the plastic as a food source. Students in Ontario did a study with a filtration system they developed, attaching it to the sewage system to catch the microbeads before they entered the…

The Chibchas are known to be one of the most developed indigenous groups in all of South America ("Background Note: Colombia," 2012). Santa Fe de Bogota was founded in 1538, and in 1717 it became the capital of the Viceroyalty of New Granada ("Background Note: Colombia," 2012). In 1813 they got complete independence from Spain ("Background Note: Colombia," 2012). In 1819 Simon Bolivar defeated the Spanish in the war of Boyaca (Lambert, 2011). In 1819 the Republic of Greater Colombia was created and it included everything of the previous Viceroyalty of New Granada ("Background Note: Colombia," 2012).
