Introduction Many people can't imagine how life would be without cell phones. Very few people don't comprehend how much that would affect us. At one point in life people used to mail each other letters to get messages back and forth from one person to another. In this current century those methods has been added to the cell phones.

Todd Starkweather, General Studies program director at South University, Richmond sees frequent use of cellphones in his classes.
Text Messaging Statistics
Source: SMS Marketing Statistics This article is about the statistics of text messaging. Some statistics this article states are text messages per minute, text messages per year, etc. For example, 95 - 98% of text messages are read within minutes of receipt, 2.12 Trillion text messages are sent every year! (Summer 2011) and there is over 320 million wireless subscribers in the US (Summer 2011). With all this said you can clearly see that many of US citizens have a cell phone and cell phones have huge impact on the way we all socialize with one another.
Pros & Cons of Cell Phone Usage
Source: The Cell Phone Turns 40: Pros and Cons of a Cordless Life This article aims at the good and bad sides of having a cell phone. Some of the good usage of cellphones that this article offers is never missing a interview call, gps for when you need direction and all the good apps we use today for shopping, games, news etc. The bad side of the cell phone is that it can become addicting and a lot of people don't even think about turning it off for an hour or two. People cross streets, do work, go to class with their eyes glued onto their cell phones. FINAL SUMMARY To begin with, when the cell phone was created for a simple purpose. The main purpose of cell phones was invented for was to to contact people if they are not home. In other word you're able to receive phone calls from almost anywhere in the world. Later on cell phones were able to send text messages just as easy as making an outgoing call. The main reason why cell phones has increased tremendously over the past couple of years is because other than the fact that its easy to use, its also became affordable. Obviously there are many expensive cell phones out there but there are many that are as low as $20.00 not including service. Also there are free phones provided from the government, if you qualify for one. Other than call and texting cell phones now a days can, record voice notes, make, video clips, play games, take pictures, access the internet and many other things. This electronic device became an everyday use for most people in the world. Furthermore, cell phones have a lot good uses and can be very helpful on a everyday use. Cell phones made it a lot easier to stay in contact with people you want to stay in contact with. Your loved ones are only one call or text away. Many people use their phone to contact people they cannot see everyday. For example imagine you're grown sibling moves away to another country or state and it too difficult to see him/her everyday. You can video chat, text message or call your loved ones. Even in my household we call or text our loved ones from time to time because it too difficult to stay in contact with them since they are in Dominican Republic. Another advantage is that you can keep up with your friends. Lets say a person you know moves away, through social networks you can find out where he moved to with him personally telling you. In my opinion those are great benefit we all can take advantage of. In contrary, cell phones have a lot of neat features and makes our lives easier it also has its bad side. It has a negative affect in the way we socialize. One effect is the fact that people are beginning to text message their family and friends instead communicating verbally. For example, statistics have shown that 95-98% of text messages sent are read within minutes. Also statistics have shown that on a average 2.19 trillion of text messages have been sent every year since 2011. If you think about that means a lot of people interact with their phones instead of verbally. Basically you can walk into any household or eating environment there will be a majority of people texting. I personally feel like communication between humans are slowly dying out. The communication between people will be highly depended on an electronic device. To add to that there are little kids texting while crossing the street, so in a way is dangerous. this also applies to drivers that text instead of keeping their eyes on the road. Lastly, if we continue to use our phones the way we all use it today we will forget how to communicate face to face. That is a huge problem if we ever reach that point, although its already starting. This is a skill that every human in the world needs to develop. The reason why people needs to develop this skill is because there are situations that is immoral and inappropriate to handle through a cell phone. A situation that is happening now is that couple are breaking up through calls, mostly text messages. In my opinion that is wrong, I feel like if you was brave enough to tell a person you liked him/her or brave enough to ask them out, you should be brave enough to break up in person. It may seem easier using your phone for everything but its taking away skills we need in life. One skill its taking away from us this basic mathematics. Usually kids don't even buy a calculator anymore for their math class, they would just solve problems in their phone. Sometimes they wouldn't do their work in their phones and end up texting their friends or family. To finalize, this research paper has opened my eyes to how cell phones has changed us socially. In this study Ive been aware that cell phones has benefits but it also has its downfalls. I feel like we should all have cell phones for emergencies and other purposes but we shouldn't be so attached that we communicate only through text messages and calls. Being so attached to your phone can cause harm to you physically and mentally. Theres usually never a thought in our head that maybe we should turn off our cell phones. In a sense it can be said that cell phones is a addiction.
