1. Jason
Jason is a 38-year-old factory worker who came into the treatment center after being arrested for drinking and driving (DUI/DWI). His attorney has suggested that he quit drinking and enter treatment at least until his trial, which is scheduled in two months. Jason does not anticipate serving jail time, but he believes that treatment could strengthen his legal case. After his first arrest for DUI two years ago, he simply paid a fine and attended a special driver's education program for six weeks. Jason found the program to be "a waste of time."
Jason has been married for 10 years and has two sons aged 8 and 6 years. He has had numerous arguments with his wife, Melissa, concerning his drinking. He gets very angry and defensive when she confronts him about his heavy drinking, and he asserts that he is not an alcoholic. He knows this is true because his father was an alcoholic, and Jason says that he is not like his father. His father died as the result of a fight that occurred in traffic when he was drunk. Jason says that his father used to "beat the tar out" of him and his brother when he was drunk and that his father always belittled, taunted, and threatened their mother, whether he was drunk or sober.
Jason drinks with his buddies from the plant and does not think that his drinking is any more than what they do. He was just "unlucky" and got caught doing what everyone else seems to get away with. Jason's drinking is very predictable: he drinks 8 or 9 beers on a weeknight. Several of these are consumed at the bar with friends, the remainder at home over the course of the evening. He usually falls asleep in front of the television. On weekends, he often drinks 3–4 twelve packs between Friday and Sunday. A typical Saturday involves getting up at 10:00 a.m., playing soccer with friends, and going to the bar for the rest of the day and night. This pattern leads to arguments with Melissa, who calls him a "lousy father." At times, Jason has had

Jason goes off by himself and looks at the roll of paper he sneaked into his backpack. We see a quick glimpse that they are some sort of blueprints. He hears someone approaching him and quickly stuffs the blueprints back into his backpack. The driver from the heist comes to talk to him. He tells him that he was glad that Jason lived up to his reputation of being one of the quickest boxmen in the business. Jason responds that he is not in the business, he is just doing what he has to. This is where we learn that Jason was forced to do this because he broke into the boss’ house to try and make some money. The boss caught him and was about to kill him when he realized that he broke into his high security safe with great ease. He allowed him to live but he would have to be his new “boxman.” This last heist was Jason’s first on the team. Jason looks somewhat somber after telling this story. The driver tells him not to feel bad about breaking into the vault, the people who owned it were corrupt and the police were trailing them anyway. He tells Jason that they are like Robin Hood, except that they keep money. After the team is done celebrating, they all go their spate ways with their shares of the money.…

This resentment that Jason feels for Caddy gets passed on to her daughter. Jason in his first line passes the torch of his hatred of his sister on to his niece. Jason’s hatred of the both of them flows so deep within his veins that he steals the money that Caddy sends to Quentin monthly. Eventually Quentin finds out about her Uncle's deceptiveness and steals the money back from him. Because Jason is not entered into the play until far into the plot, the audience has a biased opinion of him from the start. This time allows for other characters to depict him as they see, without Jason there to defend himself. After reading the first few pages of the play, we already have a bias against Jason and believe he is immoral. These beliefs are predominantly based on the statements of the nurse and the tutor. He is depicted by the nurse as a man that has betrayed his family, “Jason has betrayed his on sons and my mistress” (Lines 16-17). This line provokes the audience and turns them away from Jason.…

"How are you feeling today?" asked doctor Jason Posner in his usual automatic, inattentive salutation to Vivian, which is both humorous and distressing. There is a connection between Vivian Bearing and Jason Posner. Prepped for research and scholarship by Vivian herself (he took her class on the metaphysical poets) Jason possesses many of the same traits as Vivian. He is smart, ambitious, dedicated to the complexities of his medical research, and inept at human relations. Like Professor Bearing, who could be overbearing with her students, Jason prefers research to "the part with the human beings." Both Vivian and Jason are arrogant and unfeeling, much to their own detriment. Vivian is forced to temper her arrogance when illness becomes agony. Jason's arrogance causes him to make a serious blunder when he tries to resuscitate Vivian despite her do not resuscitate (DNR) orders.…

Compson has been force-feeding feelings of hatred towards the family to Jason throughout his life by setting him apart from his siblings. Although she sent Quentin to Harvard, it does not necessarily mean that he is the favorite of both parents, but that she is so obsessed with the status that comes with going to an Ivy League school that she would bankrupt the family over it. Caddy makes enough money to send over to the Compsons’ each month to sustain her family. Instead of seeing these checks as gratitude Mrs. Compson tells Jason that “[Caddy] will realize that she and Quentin have had their share and part of Jason’s too, and that it depends on her now to compensate him.” (Faulkner 262) Mrs. Compson believes that because of Harvard and getting pregnant are the highlights of her children's’ lives, that they have stolen Jason's limelight. She does not see the checks as gratitude for taking care of Miss Quentin but rather as something that Caddy must be obligated to do because Jason never got a chance at a successful life. Jason is a “true Bascomb” (Faulkner 182) and, therefore, connects more with his mother. He also has not left the house, although he saved up enough money to do so because he would rather have these thoughts about his family than forget about them. Throughout his childhood Caddy constantly challenged him, “ Caddy demands that she be in charge; no one fights her except Jason, and only outright aggression makes him act.” (Wagner 557) Miss Quentin is…
