Project Description:

We live in a culture that looks for answers to all problems from institutions such as government, corporations, social service groups - even celebrities; but let’s face it, the incentive and initiative for doing good - true goodness that comes only from God - comes from the heart, one heart at a time!

We’ve all heard of people who have done great things through their unselfish, tireless love for their fellow man: Mother Theresa, Jimmy Carter and Habitat for Humanity, World Outreach, etc. But where did the drive, initiative, and tireless love come? What prompted these individuals to move on behalf of others? It was the love of Christ that dwells within them!

According to Louise Slavicek, the Missionaries of Charity run 600 schools, missions, and shelters in 120 countries (90-91). In the eyes of many, this amount of service was extraordinary and her work expanded significantly! What was, even more, amazing was that Mother Teresa’s excellent work was recognized by many organizations, countries, and famous celebrities. In 1985, President Ronald Reagan awarded Mother Teresa the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to honor her work among the impoverished. Years earlier, she was awarded the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. In the following years, numerous organizations honored Mother Teresa’s work on behalf of the poor (Sebba, 80-84). The recognition of Mother Teresa’s work and the international expansion of the Missionaries of Charity showed that her mission was very extensive and…

Jesus Christ is the perfect example of charity. In His mortal ministry, He always went about doing good, teaching the gospel and showing tender compassion for the poor, afflicted, and distressed. His crowning expression of charity was His infinite love and compassion for others. He said, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). This was the greatest act of long-suffering, kindness, and selflessness that will ever be known. The Savior wants all people to receive His love and to share it with others. He declared to His disciples: "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" (John 13:34-35). In relationships with family members and others, followers of Christ look to the Savior as their example and strive to love as He loves, with unfailing compassion, patience, and…

Only a scare amount of people are destined to be the President of the United States, to be astronauts, to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, or to find a cure for a terminal disease. All of us are capable of significant accomplishments and achievements throughout each of our lives. As Mother Teresa or St. Teresa of Calcutta states this quote, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love,” it signifies extreme importance through society in which people accomplish things rather large or small; love is always present during the accomplishments not matter the size of the achievement. Not everyone is exposed, or afforded, the opportunity to do great things; whether fame, money, or motivation tend to get in the…
