Michael Dell's Advice to Entrepreneurs (2:27)—
What changes has Dell made recently that shifts how the company operates? He cut prices, improved customer service, changed processor chips from Intel to AMD and he opened Dell stores so people can actually put their hands on the product.

How do you think those changes will be accepted by consumers? As an owner of two Dell computers, I can say that the changes have been a great improvement. I have always been an HP fan until recently. At Christmas I bought my mother and granddaughter laptops. I chose a Dell because I felt she would receive better service with it than the HP. Will they be successful changes? I believe they will. Dell seems to be learning from mistakes of the past.

What advice does Michael Dell offer to entrepreneurs? Be willing to experiment and to fail, listen and look for break troughs.

Russell Simmons on Innovation and Business (3:28)
How can diversity benefit a company? It can be of benefit in many ways. Implementing diversity in a company can foster better more open minded attitudes. It can make a company more adaptable. A diverse company also has the benefit of a broader range of ideas which in turn can make the company flexible and improve service to customers.

How important is innovation in a company? If your company is not innovative, your company will stagnate and die. You must be willing to be creative. To be open minded to outside ideas and be willing to change and adapt when you have to. It’s the only way you can survive in this day and age.

I Am the New Definition of a Business Woman - Women for Women International (6:46)—
Do nonprofit organizations impact the local, regional, or national economy? I used to think the impact an organization had depended on the size and of the organization. I believe now that it can have a much wider impact. Helping someone locally, enables them to thrive and contribute to society.

Companies are always looking to see if their training brought in a return of investment. Employers invest time and money into employees during training and it is hard to measure if it was worthwhile. With diversity training it is obvious that at least some of it is worth it because if it is working then your organization will be diverse and will flow cohesively together. The employees that are trained bring new ideas to the table and allow the business to gain perspective that may have not otherwise have been there (Hubbard, 2003). Think of a company that employs only new college graduates into management positions. The company would lack the knowledge of the experience from the older generation. It the scenario was vice versa the company would lack the knowledge of new insight that was just learned. The same goes for different cultures, having a diverse culture allows the company to reach and relate to different cultures.…

The proof is in the pudding. In his article, The Pros and Cons to Diversity, Chris van Mossevelde, discussed various opinions about diversity in work environments. In his writings he said “A diverse workforce knows how to market and sell products & services to a diverse consumer population; marketing is all about understanding the end-consumer and there is no better way of doing it than by recruiting the people you’re trying to sell to” (Mossevelde, 2012). If done naturally, diversity can increase business profitability greatly. On the other hand, there is always a chance that diversity can cause a business to lose money.…

Similar to IBM, HP is also taking a different approach. In 2011, HP announced they would be selling there computer division and begin to focus on enterprise services. So why are these companies changing business models that have work so well over the years? I think it’s simple, there isn't enough profit in it. Answer: Yes, Dell’s performance has been improved from a change in organizational structure. Firstly, creating the functional structure and giving authority to manager can help Dell to develop a lean organizational culture to squeeze the cost. Secondly, fragmenting the sub-division for specific customers could allow Dell to better respond the customer need; consequently, it could increase the customer satisfaction. Moreover, grouping the division as the customer group can help employees to obtain more in-dept knowledge and specialize in their tasks to serve the specific customers. Of course, this kind of organization can increase the profitability of the company. Besides, Dell’s performance is improved substantially from making use of the corporate intranet to standardize activities across divisions and integrate its activities to reduce cost. In…

With Dell’s strategy of lowering prices, competitors will have to react to this. This will mean that different computer manufactures will also aim to reduce their costs and lower the prices of their products, thereby leading to generally lower prices for consumers. Manufacturers will have to maintain and surpass the quality of their products at cheaper prices, which is very positive for consumers. Pricing wars can begin due to the nature of the industry in which Dell operates in, as manufacturers try to gain a competitive advantage through a mixture of both quality and price. When this happens, industry profits could decrease and this could have a negative impact on Dell in the long run as their competitive advantage may be copied and even bettered by their rivals. Dell must plan ahead and anticipate such a reaction from their competitors and the industry as a whole.…
