PROJECT: Stabilized solid Bricks Manufacturing.

Description:
Brick making remains an important industry in many rural and urban areas, but the income it provides can be a very marginal one. Often there are large numbers of producers and the quality of bricks produced can vary greatly. Stabilized Soil Brick technology (also known as Stabilized Compressed Earth Block (SCEB)) allows producers to easily manufacture higher quality bricks and as a result receive a higher income for themselves.
What are Stabilized Soil Bricks?
Stabilized soil bricks technology offers a cost effective and environmentally sound masonry system. The product has a wide application in construction and is manufactured by compacting earth (murram/sub-soil) mixed with a stabilizer such as cement or lime. A number of manual machines are available which compact the soil to attain dense, even sized masonry. The bricks are then laid out in the sun and cured rather than being fired. Some SSB technology also includes an interlock (called ISSB) resulting in lower mortar costs.
The bricks have four key advantages over traditional bricks:
1) Build Quality:
SSB allows users to produce uniform blocks of greater strength than typical fired blocks that provide better thermal insulation.
2) Financial:
The total cost of building a structure with SSB is 20%-30% cheaper than building with fired bricks because far less mortar is required, structures don’t have to be plastered, and bricks can be made on site so transportation costs are minimized.
3) Environmental:

AustStab Technical Note No.1 May 2002 Lime stabilisation practice 1 Introduction Lime stabilisation of materials is one of the oldest forms of stabilisation and sometimes the least understood. The stabilisation of clay subgrades using quicklime has a long and successful history in many urban and rural regions of Australia, and is cost effective and a necessary requirement for Municipalities and State Road Authorities seeking long-life roads to minimise future maintenance costs. The possible applications of lime stabilisation are to: q q q increase subgrade stiffness (see Figure 1), reduce the PI of insitu pavement material, enhance volumetric stability for the top layer of select material, q modify subbase layers to improve stiffness of the pavement, and q produce a temporary construction platform for civil works. manufactured in Australia is processed through a fluid bed, rotary or vertical shaft kilns. Problems associated with transporting lime by sea over long distances limits the importation of this binder.…

The concept of soil nailing was developed in early 1970 in Europe for repairing of earth wall, for stabilization of permanent and temporary slopes and for retaining walls. The first application of this method was done in 1972 in France. According to Chassie 1993 this technique are also applicable to basement excavation (temporary shoring) and for temporary supports for excavation related to tunnels and railroads. As Chassie also said that first record of this application was in United States in 1970’s mid to provide temporary and permanent support for building of hospital. The major use of this technique in US is in earth retention during construction of building and other structures.…
