In the novel, Bud Not Buddy, by Christopher Paul Curtis, he shows that families have similarities and differences. The Sleets and Amos's are similar because they are both kind, and they both care. They are different because the Sleets are loving, while the Amos's are cold hearted. Another difference is the Sleets are humorous and the Amos's are serious. The Sleets and Amos's share only a few similarities.

Also on page 2 it clearly states, "don't be so glum. I know you don't understand but there's a depression going on all over the country. The first difference is the Sleets are loving, and the Amos's are cold hearted. Mrs. sleet states on page 118 "Bud wake up sweetie I've got some nice breakfast waiting for you." Mrs. Amos states on page 15"Mr. Amos will show you to the shed tonight, and you can come back in the morning for breakfast." The Sleets are loving because they treat bud with like family even though he was a complete stranger. The Amos's are cold hearted because, instead of treating bud like family, hey lock him in a shed, and take his belongings. Another difference is the Sleets are humorous and the Amos's are serious. One page 128 it states"she turned a chicken into a vegetarian!" On page 15 it states"I'm a woman of my word," she says this is an upsetting serious way. This proves the Sleets can joke around. It proves that the Amos's are serious, because they won't let anything slide. They can't let loose. Those are some similarities and

The persona of a sociopath appears to be much like any human. In many cases, one would not be able to "pick him out of a crowd." Their minds, however, differ greatly from the average mind. A sociopath is extremely smart and methodical and most often is very meticulous in the way in which he acts. While many people are not thinking beyond the norm, a psychopath thinks about his every breath, step, and word. In the short story "Where are you going, Where have you been?" by Joyce Carol Oates, the depiction of a sociopath is apparent. Arnold’s mannerism, thoughts and tactics create the perfect portrayal of a truly sociopathic character.…

The most prominent and significant similarity of both novels is the idea of racism. Entwined throughout the books, the theme of racism is the backbone, which reflects the hardships African Americans experienced throughout the 1960’s. In the novel, Coming of Age in Mississippi, the main character, Anne, and her family, are African Americans. Along with the other "black" plantation workers, her and her family live in shacks without electricity or indoor plumbing. On the contrary, the "white" family's houses have electricity and indoor plumbing. This is overbearing discrimination as the black families work unbelievably hard on the plantation just to live unsanitary while the white families live comfortably through them. In the novel The Help, the main character, Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, asks different black maids, referred to as the “help”, domestic questions. She discovers her friend’s attitudes about the "help” and her friend, Hilly Holbrook, made something for her home called a "Home Help Sanitation Initiative". This initiative is for separate bathrooms for black maids because they carry different diseases. Hilly's thoughts reflect extremely racial judgments. Treating the African Americans as though they are not people, she often depicts them as dogs or wild animals that are bringing diseases and infections into her house. Both novels involve the public having an opinion that African…

If I had a list similar to Bud’s it would be on becoming a better student. I’ve always been a good student but without my list I wouldn’t be that great of a student, I call it “Rules and Things to Make a Better Student Out of Yourself” Rule number one is to study each subject for one hour every day. Rule number two is to study in a quiet room with no distractions. Finally, rule number three is to not be a procrastinator, or to wait until last minute to complete the assignment. All of these rules have helped me through the years. The especially helped me last year in my language arts literacy classes, because every Friday we had a V4A test. It was hard but my list helped me a lot. So, every week I would practice the words and test myself. I would study for two hours instead of the one to get more practice. Each week the words got harder, more elaborate, and vivid. And, it wasn’t always easy studying for so long, and it was not all sunshine and rainbows either. It was boring. I didn’t want to do it but I had to. I would study in my room with my small television off, and my door shut. I would block out the pitter patter of my fish’s filter running and the remaining sounds coming from outside my wooden door. Then, I would close the white blinds so that I didn’t look outside. After that, I would put all my video games under the bed so that I wasn’t tempted into playing them in middle of studying. Then, I would complete the worksheet and write out note cards. I would study the note cards every day of the week, until he test. And when I took the tests the scores weren’t bad. And during the week I never procrastinated. At the end of the year I was proud of my work and studying. That’s how my rule helped me be a better…
