I recently read a dictionary’s definition of the verb ‘bully’ as “[to] use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants.” (MW Dict.) The article titled “Defining Bullying Down” by Emily Bazelon describes how the issue of bullying will never be solved if we continue to describe such a wide array of behaviors as bullying. Bazelon states that since it’s common to label everything from schoolyard teasing to harassment and intense violence as bullying, we can’t teach victims and bystanders how to stop it. Studies have shown that the best way to stop bullying is to deem it unacceptable. By shaming the behavior itself, we embarrass the perpetrator so they will think twice before doing…

One of it is the plot of these two books. In both stories, the main character is put into hard positions where they have to make decisions that might change they’re lives forever. Not only that, both main characters meet new people on their quest and also fall in love. I did not notice they were that similar until I really thought about it. When you read a novel, you do not usually compare the characters with others from another novel. But I noticed that between these two books, both the main characters are orphans and both have kind, caring and strong characteristics. Whereas for the villain, has a strange, cruel and twisted personality. Every good novel needs a good ending sentence. “Daughter of the Sea, Hannah” concludes its story with: “I am not alone! There is a world out there.” While “The Fallen” concludes its novel with: “By touch he found what was needed, a twelve-inch blade that glinted sharply in the beams of sunlight that streamed in through openings in the boarded-up windows.” The first word that came into my mind was confidence. Why? Because they show me that they have decided on what they clearly want to do and they will do not give up no matter what. Something really interesting about the similarities about these two books is that the authors of these two books had me thinking and reflecting to myself. I thought; “If I were to make an important decision in the future, will I choose the right one? Can…

The story of Bobby Kent, a true Bully, can be read through the writings of Jim Schutze. Bobby Kent was a young man who grew up in Broward Country Florida and seemed to live two completely different lifestyles. To parents and teachers, he was often times known as an intelligent individual with goals that would lead to success in the future. Bobby Kent was a young man who maintained good grades in school and seemed to be athletic. He was naturally charming and attractive while appearing to have good character. Bobby Kent had parents who wanted nothing but the best for him and were determined to give him what has become known as the "American Dream". His father, Fred Kent insisted that Bobby become his own boss and offered to help him open up a car stereo shop as this proved to be a hobby that Bobby enjoyed. Bobby's mother, Farah Kent wanted the same thing as most mothers and that was to see her son become a success. Although many viewed Bobby Kent as an admirable individual, the seven individuals who took part in his murder, could not agree to all of the qualities that have been presented thus far. The seven individuals who took part in the murder of Bobby Kent were his best friend Marty Puccio, Lisa Connelly, Derek Kaufman, Derek Dzvirko, Allison Willis, Donny Semenec, and Heather Swallers.…

In an analysis of the characters portrayed in both the works we can find certain similarities. As stated above we can see the characters themselves in a moral and sacrificial light wherein they are not thinking or living for themselves but for their respective siblings. If we go into the actual character portrayal too, we can find how the characters are dressed in rags to save even the smallest penny for their siblings comfort. They do not even eat or dress well lest they have to spend any money, which can be found to have a better use for their siblings.…
