Analysis of Brian Caswell's Asturias
Asturias concerns a group of adolescent youths, who are in search for fame and fortune. They create a band where the actions of friends and family affect the outcome of the band. Individual wants and needs, builds up tension, suspense, and dramatic moments to create a climax at the conclusion of the novel.

Asturias revolves around 8 central characters; Alex, Chrissie, Tash, Marco, Tim, Claire, Max and Symonds. Each character has different opinions and beliefs. They have all been brought up differently. Alex was brought up under strong male influence, where family bonds were strong. This is such a contrast to Marcos upbringing. Marco watched his father’ abusive actions and had a mother who never believed in him. Although each character is so diverse, they all held one common aspect; their love for music. This is what held the band so strongly together.
Celebrity and fame shows that it can lead people to many different ways such as in a positive or a negative approach. The positives can be money or admiration of the society and the negatives can be drug and alcohol or rumours from the media. I chose money because it is one of the basic aspects of fame involved in celebrity and fame. Money is also related in one of the text, Asturias. One quote that is mentioned in the novel is from Alex, “Twelve months of…”fame and fortune”. The ride was every bit as exciting as they’d promised.” This quote shows that “fame and fortune” saying that money can be a fine and thrilling obsession in life. Another Quote from Asturias was from Max, “It’s an image industry… there can’t be a positive side to it all.” In this quote, Max is now showing the down side of fame and having all the money in the world can come at a cost.
A main way that celebrity and fame affect people is with Drugs and alcohol also because it is also one of the basic aspects involved in fame and celebrity. Drugs and alcohol is also related to the text Asturias. One quote that is mentioned in the novel is from
