Another Look at Matthew 24

Sermon notes are a transcript from the sermon with only minor editing, retaining the conversational style. It is very serious for anyone who has the duty to speak with Gods people. Sometimes we do not realize how serious the things are that we are doing. In The Great Controversy, 640, it says, "Not until the day of final accounts will it be known how great is the responsibility of men in holy office and how terrible are the results of their unfaithfulness."So anyone who has the responsibility to study the word with Gods people, has a fearful responsibility. If I know something from Gods word that involves your salvation and I do not tell you and you are lost, that would be a terrible thing. Yet the devil is always trying to keep Gods ministers from declaring all the word of God. The apostle Paul said to the elders in Ephesis, "For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God." Acts 20:27.There is counsel on this in the Old Testament, too, in Ezekiel 33:6. It says, "But if the watchman sees the sword coning and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchmans hand."That is serious. So we must study all the word of God and I hnave to teti you that there is a sword coming and you need to be ready. While this is happening, we see that we have very little time left in this world. The final events of world history are hastening rapidly upon us, one of the things that I think anyone finds that visits or gives Bible studies, is that the devil is attempting to press discouragement upon Gods people. So there are sincere Christians all over the world that are just like people that are pressed under a load that is so great that they feel like despairing, like giving up. Now these loads that make people feel like giving up can be many different things. Some people are pressed under a load because of some type of family situation that has created trouble or misunderstanding or strife. In fact, in commenting on this, Ellen White says that the worst kind of persecution that a person can endure is when you have persecution in your home. There is strife and somehow you cannot have that warm, loving relationship with somebody in your home, but it is just the opposite. Jesus had that. Jesus grew up in a home like that where He was misunderstood. He knows how you feel in that situation.Other people have an even more discouraging situation than having trouble in the home and these people exist all over the world. That is the people that realize that they have trouble in their heart. Has the Holy Spirit ever revealed to you that there is something in your heart that has to come out? Something has to be changed? Perhaps some feelings or thoughts that have to be changed? The devil tries to discourage people by saying, "Look at what you have done. You have done it over and over and over and you will never overcome." Mary Magdalene had that experience. The Lord delivered her from demon possession. Then the devil got ahold of her again. So the Lord delivered her again. Then the devil got ahold of her mind again and that happened over and over and over. The Bible said and Ellen White corroborates in The Desire of Ages that Jesus delivered her from demon possession seven times.Other people are discouraged because of a health problem or a financial problem or a problem with theirjob or some other kind of difficulty. If you are trying to help people that are in these kinds of troubles, what can you say? Look at a test in the Bible. Matthew 17 is the Mount of Transfiguration and it says in Matthew 17:8, "When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only."That is all they saw. Ellen White says, that is the secret of the power that there was in the early church. They got their vision focused on Jesus only. People want to get your attention focused on...
