The book begins with Totto-Chan's mother knowing her daughter got expelled from school. Her mother realizes that Totto-Chan needs is a school where more freedom is permitted. So, she takes Totto-Chan to meet the headmaster of the new school, Mr. Kobayashi. The book describes the times that Totto-Chan has, the friends she makes, the lessons she learns, and the vibrant atmosphere that she indulges in. All of these presented to the reader through the eyes of a child. The reader sees the normal world transformed into a beautiful, exciting place full of joy and also sees in their role as adults, how Mr. Kobayashi introduces new activities to interest the pupils. One sees in Mr. Kobayashi a man who understands children and strives to develop their qualities of mind, body and heart. His concern for the physically challenged and his emphasis on the equality of all children are remarkable. In the school, the children lead happy lives, unaware of the things going on in the world. World War ll has started, yet in this school, no signs of it seen. However, one day, the school is bombed, and never rebuilt, even though the headmaster claimed that he looked forward to building an even better school the next time round.
Tetsuko Kuroyanagi: Tetsuko Kuroyanagi alias Totto-Chan is the protagonist, who looks at the world from an innocent and candid point of view. She is as naughty as a little child can be, and she does not realize the cruelties of the world for what it is. Her frame of reference confined to that of a fun-loving and pampered child.
Sosaku Kobayashi: Perhaps describing Totto-Chan as the protagonist was a mistake, because Sosaku Kobayashi, Totto-Chan's own Master Kobayashi is the backbone of the book. In fact, Tetsuko describes her book as a dedication to her beloved headmaster for a promise that she could not keep. He is a delightful character and an educational expert. It is his unique views that made Totto's life at her new school a pleasant journey.

I read the book Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. The story begins in a small town in Sterling, New Hampshire. At the high school, you read about a routine day of students in classes. As a student runs out of class to leave for an orthodontist appointment a loud bang goes off in the parking lot, which turns out to be a bomb set off in Matt's car. The students are confused by the noise and gun shots are fired. Patrick, the only detective on the Sterling police force (which is just stupid to have only one), hears on his radio about the shooting at Sterling High School. Patrick sees several students on the floor, surrounded in blood. The boy is dead and has a gunshot in his head while his girlfriend, Josie wakes up and cant…

The title of this book relates to the story, because in the book, Ponyboy and Johnny are "outsiders." They can be thought of as Outsiders because they are labeled Greasers although they do not act like hoodlums, like the rest of the Greasers. They are thought of as Greasers just because they live on the East Side of town, and because they slick back their hair. But Ponyboy and Johnny are different then all of the other Greasers because they show their emotions, and are sensitive.…

The character who is not named seems to be very emotionless and dull due to the atmosphere of the community where he lives. He spends a lot of his time reading, exploring the house where he stays, or looking out the window. He is raised by his aunt and uncle who seem to brush his presence off and his only friend is a boy named Mangan who lives in the apartment across the street from him. The only thing that seems to bring a smile to his face is Mangan’s sister he watches from his window to see when she steps out of the house and when she does it makes his “heart leap” (302).…

Evolving from ape-man society to the advanced civilization nowadays, people start to inhabit in artificial concrete jungle and live far away from the given natural environment. With social progression and economic benefits, peoples' crave for natural resources keeps escalating from time to time. People have a great tendency to consume resources yet ignore the long-term behavioral consequences that are destined to cycle back eventually. The significance of sustainability is mostly overlooked. The book 'Human Science and Human History 101' considers the planet and human as a whole system and tells the story in an informational scientific way. The book contains four main topics. Firstly introduce the formation history of the Earth and facts about different parts and components of the Earth to provide readers a solid concept and basis of the planet. Afterwards, it gradually explores the fact that human generation development and evolution are greatly determined by the changes on the Earth, for instance, the uncontrollable natural catastrophe-volcano eruption. Hence it evaluates the resulting impacts and relationships between human development and the Earth as a circulating ecosystem.…
