Big Lots: A Short Story
We all remember when we were young enough to fit into tiny spaces. We were absolutely carefree. But being that young there was always something that we were afraid of. For me, that was dogs, bugs, and men with really long beards. This story took place in the middle of Big Lots’ parking lot in plain sight for everyone to see, it was extremely embarrassing.
One afternoon my mom, sister and I went to Big Lots to pick up a new blender as we pulled into the parking lot I saw something peculiar. A family was getting out of their car when a white dog jumps out with them. The strange thing about it was that they didn’t put it back in the car. They proceeded to go into the store, and as I watch them from my car was freaking out. I told my mom that

My dog, Pepper, is a black Cocker Spaniel, and she loves to greet her owners at the door when we walk in. Her little butt starts wagging really fast, and she has the biggest smile on her face. On Friday the 13th, I was walking inside my house with a friend. I wasn't thinking of my little dog being right there. When I stepped inside, I heard a loud squeal. Pepper quickly ran from me, and my mom rushed to the door. I realized that I had accidentally stepped on my poor puppy's paw. I…

It was outside. The outside runs were nice and simple but yet fun enough for a cute dog to be widley entertained by it. On the ground were rubbery woodchips and colorful rocks. In each corner was a light blue, plastic kiddie pool which water rippled in the afternoon breeze and a green mailbox by the entrance or the run. On the other side of the blue kiddie pool there was a fake, bright, firetruck red fire hydrant so the dogs had a cute place to do their lawful business on. When we took quiet, little Sonya out into the run she started sprinting. Boy! Could she run! She scurried around that run like crazy and when she finally was out of breath she trotted up to us and flopped down. Then she started barking like mad. She had the weirdest bark I’ve ever heard before. Now whenever she barks I know that its…

The first step of getting my dog began we went to the rescue to take dogs out on walks which I really wanted to do. While we were there I saw on a flyer, my soon to be dog without knowing it, a dog as cute as a baby bunny. It turns out, I was not old enough to walk the dogs, which was like emotionally being hit by a truck. I had to just walk while my mom walked the dogs, which was okay. My mom got more involved with the rescue, and one day while I was at school she was washing dogs, and the dog from the flyer was scared and ducked…

A couple days ago, while me and Julianna were jumping on the trampoline, we started talking about how cool it would be to jump on it at night. We decided we really wanted to try it so we came up with a plan. Last night we did it. We had to wait until everybody went to bed. We were staying up in her bedroom so we were extra quiet when walking down the stairs. We got on our shoes and snuck as quiet as possible out the door. When we got out onto the porch it was kind of drizzling but we were brave so we decided to go anyways. We ran at top speed down the hill, threw our shoes off, and started jumping. That was when it really started to rain. After a few jumps, I looked up and saw something. I am almost positive it was a fox. I screamed and me and Juju scurried off the tramp and tried to put our shoes on. I was wearing my yellow mud boots with the broken zipper and I could not for the life of me get one of them on. I finally gave up and took off running with one shoe on up to the house. When we made it upstairs into Juju’s bed, we realized our jammies were wet so we slept in our undies. We had to hug each other because we were both shaking from cold and fright and it took a while to fall…

When I was 6 years old, I needed a few stitches. I went outside which I normally didn’t do. Except that day was a rare occasion. I saw my cute little maltese puppy outside wagging her tail happily. I loved my dog, Heidi. The sun was setting so she was now fading into my backyard. So all I saw was a few flashes that were her eyes. I pet her when I got outside. She licked my hand happily. She ran around our small backyard with extreme speed .I watched her, amused. I ran after her but my little 6 year-old legs would only carry me so fast. Then she ran in front of me. I tried to stop from running into her.…

“Stranger danger!” I yelled with a broken crackled voice, as I ran from the people towards my home. I ran as fast I could, so fast Forest Gump couldn’t even keep up with me if he tried! The crowd of people cried out for me to stop as two ladies quickly jumped into their truck to follow me in hopes of providing me assistance. They asked me, “do you want a ride?”, “do you want to call the police?”, “are you ok?” and all I could respond was “stranger danger!” I agreed to let them give me a ride, but only if I rode in the bed of the…

But as I mature into my teenage years, I realised the folly and absurdities of my fears. In fact, some of them were so ludicrous like lurking monsters under my bed and demon-like character that brutally attacked anyone during Halloween.
