Personal Narrative: A Trip To Louries Children's Hospital
I was strapped in the mini van on the way to Louries children's hospital. It was a crisp, sunny October day. As I was looking out the window, the lake was shimmering and all the boats were gliding on the water. The Navy Pier Ferris wheel was in the distance. The trees still had some green leaves clinging on for dear life as the wind brushed against them.

As my mom pulled our mini van off the highway, and into the hospital parking lot, I started to get a sick feeling in my stomach like an animal was crawling inside.

I was starting to get worried because I was going to get surgery on my testicle. I was a pre-mature baby and I had to get three hernia operations when I was little. Now, my testicle had floated up into the scar tissue left from my three surgeries. I was with my mom and my grandma. My

We went to the fish floor. The hospital was all ocean themed. I liked it. It took my mind of the surgery. Then we arrived in the waiting room. It had blue walls and some tables with windows. The buildings outside made it look gloomy and cloudy. A couple minutes later, they called me. So I popped up and walked into the room were I found out my height. The nurse showed me that I was in room number six. When I sat down the nurse came in and I asked some questions. I was most scared about the IV but they explained there was only an IV when I woke up. They assured me that I would not feel it. Instead they were going to use a gas to put me out. So I was not as afraid anymore. I was thinking, not a horrible as I thought. After 30 minutes my dad came in the room. It was cool. All green and blue with some coral painted on the wall. There was a curtain with green and tangerine coral with a blue background. Then the anesthesiologists came in and explained what was going to happen and I was not as frightened. Then they asked, "Are you

It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. For some reason, I kept fiddling with my fingers, I was really nervous to see him. We took the exit 31A and we all shifted to the left since it was a sharp turn to the right. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. In my head, I say “I can’t, he is the first boy of the family, the first! Besides me!” I stopped fiddling and looked at the huge structure in front of me, The Holy Cross Hospital.…

The ER waiting room smelled stale. Sick babies and toddlers were crying, waiting to see a doctor. My brother was laying on the tan tiled hospital floor. He was shaking terribly as the antibiotics from the previous hospital wore off and the infection set in more. Both of his hands were red and swollen. His right hand, had a black mark from where the IV initially infected. His left hand was swollen to the size of a small balloon, kind of like a blown up rubber glove I used to get from the doctor when I was younger. My mom took her jacket off to cover him. His skin was hot to the touch but he was still freezing. His fever was 101.2 but there were no open rooms in the ER at our second attempt at a hospital. We had to get him antibiotics…

She was born on a busy summer night on September 13th 1918 in Brookline, Massachusetts. I always had the feeling that Rosie was a little different from the rest of us. On the day of her birth the midwife arrived late, and my theory is that this action deprived her brain of oxygen. We were proven right when she failed to advance from kindergarten and was deemed to suffer from intellectual disabilities. When this happened our parents began to conceal their third child from society.…

The moment I woke up from my surgery I remember my surgeon say that "everything thing went well, that the gallbladder came out fine with no complications." She must have turned to my mom because she had said that she wanted me to stay overnight to monitor me, crazy thing was is that I was a actually still pretty drugged up, the room was a little fuzzy my mouth had a weird dry nasty taste inside of it that I really can't put my tongue to, they wouldn't even give me water right away As I looked down i wasn't in the baggy tan robe gown any more that they had given me when i had first arrived at devos children's hospital. When I woke up I didn't know what happened or where I was at the moment until the nurse told me when she woke me up and telling me that my surgery is all done and it went really well! I really don't remember much but I know I started to laugh when I saw a really big brace that started from my upper thigh all the way down to my ankle. It was really big and really heavy! I was out of the hospital a few minutes later after they took my vitals to make sure I was okay and all set to go home. Getting out of the bed was the worst part, imagine being really tired and loopy from the anesthesia and trying to lift your leg with a really big, heavy brace on your leg. On the way home I slept for the most part until I woke up and told my mom I wanted some chicken nuggets because I was starving from not eating all night and day. I got my chicken nuggets and went back to sleep.…

We arrived at the hospital, fairly early in the morning. Paxton my nephew was having surgery today on his ears at proctor. he had to get this surgery since he has had many ear infections and he was only one. they got him all set up by checking vitals, blood pressure, weight, height, and many other things to get ready for surgery. after they got him all set up they said we needed to go into the waiting room so they could get started. we gave hugs, kisses and headed out to the waiting room. This surgery lasted about a half an hour, but it felt like forever. While he was in surgery my heart was racing, my head was pounding, and my palms were sticky and sweaty. His surgery lasted about forty minutes long so it worried us after it had already been…

Josh decided that he would do the “lift residents”; I was very appreciative and said thank you. He also agreed to take care of the “bananas” room. By 8:30, I had finished round 2 and I needed to start giving the residents their snacks. Walking into the rooms of those who were still wake, we distributed the snacks and pulled the curtain as to not disturb those sleeping. After distributing the snacks I walked into the conference room and grabbed the green binder to chart our activities for the day. While charting I think to myself, “thank the Lord I have a break”.…

When I got to St. Vincent’s hospital I thought I was in labor but the doctor said my water wasn’t broken yet. So I had to walk up and down the hallway for the baby to come down. Then finally the doctor pulled my water. And oh my god I was in so much pain. The nurse said” Keep pushing, the baby is almost out.” With a final push I had my baby. She was the most beautiful little baby with dark hair and big light brown eyes. I called Diana.…

What is this am I so scared of you may ask? The doctor’s office. Everything about the doctor’s office scared the heck out of me. The smell of other children’s fear has been left in the doctor’s office, the way that the nurses wipe rubbing alcohol before they stab a needle into you, (which burns the tears out of my eyes by the way), and the way that the doctor silently…

As I stood there with my stomach in knots, not knowing what’s going to happen next, my wife laid screaming on the hospital bed. The sound of her heartbeat monitor beeping in the background and wires attached to her chest. “You can do this“, I told her. “Now push!” I grabbed her hand. She squeezed it until the tips of my fingers turned purple. The nurse was counting down 10, 9, 8. “Alright we need one more big push”, the doctor explained. I leaned over and…
