Clean Car Care (3Cs) should make a best-shot offer to Jane; she has been an excellent performer at her current employment. A lowball offer is out of the question since she has a job and is up for a promotion at her current company. A competitive offer may not work in this situation since the only difference in 3Cs and her current company is her vacation time. A competitive offer could potentially match Jane’s current employment situation in terms of salary and benefits, however her employer would probably match 3Cs offer. The best chance of getting Jane will be making the best-shot offer and add inducements to attract her.

Inducements

A hiring bonus and relocation assistance are 2 inducements that I would suggest to put in Jane’s job offer letter. First, I would recommend 3Cs offering Jane a one-time, lump-sum hiring bonus to induce Jane to accept its job offer. Second recommendation would be a one-time relocation assistance bonus. Calculate how much is in the budget for the bonus this amount should be set before making the offer. This bonus would help with finding properties, moving expenses, and hotel accommodations for a set period of time. Third, I would recommend as a show of appreciation that we include a list of schools, day cares, and after school activities as she is a single parent. The list contents will depend on the child’s age.

Dear Ms. Roberts,

We are delighted to offer you the position of manager at 3Cs’ north-side facility, beginning on December 1, 2012.

Your job is a full-time, salaried position. Your starting annual salary will be $33,000. Annual merit increases can be earned based on your job performance. Benefits include health insurance, flexibility in work schedules, and vacation time. In addition, we would like to offer you a $3,000 bonus, if you choose to accept this job offer.

If you decide to accept this job offer, 3Cs would be happy to assist you in the relocation process by providing up to $1,500 for house/apartment hunting and up to$3,000 for normal and reasonable moving expenses. Please save all receipts.

It should be emphasized that we are an employment-at-will employer. This means that we, or you, may terminate our employment relationship at any time, for any reason.

Jane, please inform us of your final decision regarding this offer by November 1, 2012. If you wish to accept this offer as specified in this letter, please sign and date at the bottom of the letter and return it to me.
