While deciding on a piece of art that sparked my eye I was drawn to glass sculptor Dale Chihuly’s Fiori di Como on page 24. This work of art uses amazing colors and implied lines throughout the piece giving it an unrealistic yet amazing symmetry throughout the work. It is placed on a 70 foot long ceiling suspended above the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, dazzling patrons with its unique designs and colors. When I look at the artistic style of such a creations I feel very happy inside, as if I am staring into a never-ending depth of color and shape, I see many colors flowing together and it makes me think as if, maybe this was the reason behind such a wild creation. Colors, like people, come in many shades and when combined form new colors, they come in multitude of shapes and sizes but always flow together and form something new, something magnificent. Something like Fiori di Como. The lines in this creation I believe would be considered implied because no definite line was used to create it. The shapes are more organic but there are some geometric shapes that create the masterpiece that rests in the Bellagio. The mass is implied, giving it a look of density that isn’t actually there, much like the illusion of depth because if you were to look up at the art it would seem as if you were looking into a new dimension that could continue as deep as you saw. This is an example of linear perspective, how you look-how you see, if one was to look up from the floor the art would look deeper than if one was on the ceiling looking 4 feet from it. The shapes overlap and were placed there for a reason, I believe it was to aid in the translucent ending of the art, giving it a deeper view. I do not notice if time or motion is evident because to me I believe that each line, each shape was placed a specific way to capture the beauty as a whole. I think that the use of real light is present, yet the brightness of the colors could illuminate by themselves. This

    I believe the bright colors are making a statement to emphasize on the major parts of the artwork. Showing the motion, makes you move your eyes along the imaginary wave. The slight tone of yellow makes me think of the sun come through the wave. The soft light of the off white background makes me think of a light blue sky that is clear of everything.     Each cavity, crease, wrinkle, curve, bump and ridge promotes strong lighting. Features such as the chiseled-out areas created for the eyes, lips and wrinkles in the clothing all capture great opportunities for shade and shadow. The arrangement of each portion, when held next to a strong light source, behaves in a very dynamic gradation system. Because the piece is indeed an off-white hue, the use of material is even more appropriate because the marble’s smoothness makes for a very gradual transition of lighting over rounded areas such as the neck or helmet. The whiteness of the marble, when interacting with a light source, suddenly becomes a medium for dynamic and expressive shapes. Deep cavities and chiseled areas as well as other areas give the piece a certain degree of intensity and dramatic tone.…

    The piece was pretty big, and was made up of multiple pieces. This piece takes place along a staircase with little circle tables underneath it for people to eat or talk under. As I was looking at the artwork, I noticed it was split up into six separate pieces. The artwork contains many different colors from reds, blues and greens to oranges, yellows, whites, and blacks. The Jill Gussow used a wide variety of warm and cool colors. I enjoyed that most about this piece. The way they make the random colors come together is very cool. While observing the art, I noticed multiple different types of flowers, a few birds, and a man in the far-right corner. Jill Gussow cut each tile and then at the end they put them all together. Once again Ms.Gussows cutting ability is simply amazing. Her mass amount of detail is unbelievable. The reason I chose to observe “Cullecta Cultura” is it was on the syllabus we had to follow. It was number three on our list of mosaic pieces to look at throughout Rochester. Although the piece used multiple different colors, I did not like the flow of it. It looked like a bunch of random shapes, and lines mushed together into six pieces. All six of the pieces were made from tile that was cut into shapes to make objects. Compared to Life Patterns, and The Hope Wall, this one is my least favorite. The idea of the design came from the different people at the University of Rochester. It helps celebrate…

    In the following picture, there are various artistic elements and formats. In the background and foreground of the image, it is a neutral color scheme, consisting of whites and browns. In the center of the picture, you will see three basketballs floating in a straight line in an underwater tank. This sculpture really gives the image an architectonic feel. First off the table that is holding the tank is made up of linear lines and the tank is also made up of linear lines which makes the geometric shape of a rectangle. The bold lines around the tank are the contour lines. Inside the tank, it gives the viewer an attectonic feel due to the basketballs inside. The basketballs are made up of curvilinear lines and each ball has a type of writing on, which I will talk about later.
