Comparative Essay Proper exercise is essential for a healthy life style and overall wellness of the human body. Exercise can prevent disease, improve mood, and has many other health and psychological benefits as well. Often times, too much of a good thing can ultimately turn into an addiction or a serious problem. There are many reasons for concern and methods to beat an exercise addiction. While there are many well-written and scholarly reviewed articles on ways to prevent exercise addictions and seek help/ treatments for this disorder, I chose to compare two articles that investigate how to acquire help for this certain addiction. “Beating exercise addition” I felt, was more difficult of the two articles to read. Although this article was more challenging, the author tries to make it relatable. They not only gave great evidential reasons and explanations, but also gave examples of situations an individual with exercise addiction may find himself or herself in. For example, under the signs and symptoms category the author explains, “You set your goals which are unrealistic and unattainable (miles run, hours worked out, calories burned, and body fat percentage)” (“Beating Exercise Addiction,” 2012). One mechanism McGough prepares better in her article than the other is adding several doctor opinions and knowledge on the topic. One example of this would be when McGough states, “Gleason says that unhealthy uses if exercise are not necessarily obvious…exercisers wont be complaining or bringing their potential problems to anyone’s attention” (McGough, 2004). Having other medical professional beliefs in this article, make McGough’s article more credible. Since the author discusses college students, readers can relate and have a better understanding on what exercise dependency is and how server it can

    Lack of exercise plays an immense part in the obesity problem. People always come up with excuses to get out of exercising, such as believing it will not hurt too much to miss one day or that they do not have time to exercise. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's medical correspondent wrote, “More than 60 percent of American adults do not exercise regularly, and many are content to admit they do not exercise at all” (Gupta, par. 1). Gupta hits the nail on the head in this quote, explaining that Americans do not only realize they do not exercise regularly they also are open to admit it.
