The narrator is wise enough to know that he must figure out a way to get out. The narrator begins measuring the size of the area he is in by first, walking around counting his footsteps until he reaches his destination, which was the cloth stuck to the wall that he used as a starting point, of the dungeon and then by measuring the diameter and figures out that there is a pit. He falls asleep and wakes up strapped to something and a pendulum that was holding a razor sharp blade that is slowly descending and descending toward him. When asking the question, “were the first colonists in the Chesapeake region ignorant, lazy, and unambitious,” I would have to answer yes. The Colonists showed multiple signs of ignorance, laziness, and no ambition throughout their time in the region. First, they began fighting with the natives since they arrive. Secondly, they began to starve and become susceptible to disease. And lastly, they did not have or accept any of the help they were given. With this combination of events, there is no way that anyone can actually believe the first colonists had ambition or that they were determined to succeed in developing this colony.…

Cholos is a word created by Hispanic Criollos in the 16th century. Sociologically it refers to individuals of mixed or pure Native American ancestry or any other racially mixed origin. The usage of “cholo” is meant differently throughout parts of the world. In most American usage today the term cholo is used to describe a low-income Mexican-American sub-culture manner of dress. The first usage of the term is first recorded in a book by the Peruvians published in the year 1609 and appeared again for a second time in 1616 in a book called Comentarios Reales de los Incas by Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. A sentence from the book (originally written in Spanish) stated: “The child of a black male and an Indian female, or of an Indian male and black female, they call mulatto or mulatta.” The children are also called cholo as well. Cholo comes from the Windward Islands. In the Windward Islands, cholo , means dog. Not purebred but not considered to be respectable in character or appearance.
