Attending Valencia College Scholarship Essay
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of the Valencia James M. and Dayle L. Seneff Honors College. As one of this year’s recipients, I am more than grateful for the opportunities this scholarship will provide me. I rely heavily on scholarships to help fund my education and receiving this award will assist in reducing my financial burdens as well as provide support for me as I continue pursuing my education and future career.
Attending Valencia College has been an honor and a privilege. My older brother attended Valencia and was a part of the Honors Program for a couple of years and loved it. I decided to follow in his footsteps, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Before attending Valencia College, I

Throughout my school years, I have always wanted to help in the community and make an impact to others therefore when entering my freshman year, I joined many different clubs but one stood out to me which was Key Club assists students in carrying out its mission to serve the children of the world. In the club, we do many acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives. We also learn leadership skills by running meetings, planning projects and more so. It provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. One thing that impacted me from doing community work was the Eliminate Project which is a campaign to raise $110 million to eliminate…

I would like to begin by saying that I am honored to be a nominee for membership into the 2013 Senior Honor Society of York College of Pennsylvania. I take passion in my academic studies and my community involvement. The opportunity to be recognized for the impact I have made on my college and local community is truly flattering. After spending my first two years at Millersville University, I began my studies at York College in my third year of college as a junior. Living in Spring Grove, I made the decision to live at home, work a part-time job, and commute to York College. These factors are all things that could have impacted my campus-life involvement, but I was determined to not let these factors impact my college experience. I jumped head first into the York College Community and was accepted with open arms into whatever groups I wanted to become affiliated with on campus.…

As a humble alumna of Savannah State University, I believe I have much to achieve in life. As the youngest of four siblings who all value education and prosperity, I was taught to excel in everything I do. I am a native of Savannah, Georgia and I have lived here all of my life. Due to great effort and my love for learning, I received a four year academic scholarship to Savannah State University (which I am so grateful for).…

Over the years I have discovered many things, alone, about myself, that would benefit me in the long run. As a child, math and science didn’t interest me, but I always knew what profession I wanted to take up, while in college. It was not until my high school years that I begun to realize the chosen field I wanted to major in medicine. I was surprised on how much I had evolved on the idea of math and science. Still, I was very much unaware of my next step with fulfilling my dream in college. However through research and determination I would soon be able to work towards my goals.…

To my knowledge, there is only one Landon Follett Van Wagoner in the world, but what's in a name? I suppose that my upbringing isn't far off the norm for a BYU student. I grew up in Bountiful Utah and was blessed to be raised in a family that is active in the church, where my siblings and I learned the foundational lessons of faith. I am presently serving a mission in Melbourne Australia, and I will be attending Brigham Young University this fall.…

Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Education has always been extraordinarily important to me, and for this reason, I believe I am qualified to receive this scholarship. Even from a young age, I took it upon myself to strive for the best, participating in spelling bees since the fourth grade, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average throughout middle school, and immersing myself entirely in academics during my high school career. Throughout school, I had two predominant goals that I continuously strived for: to graduate with a 4.0 grade point average and to be accepted into the college of my dreams. I accomplished both, becoming a senior scholar in my graduating class…

While working full-time at Rovi, I enrolled in the B.I.S of Information System at Villanova, transitioning from the legal field to the computer science field was extremely tough. My most prized possession is my mental stability and ethical background that I have acquired from my southern upbringing. Growing up in a rural community in the south and being reared by elderly parents allowed my seeds of character and respect to be nurtured by an entire village of people who saw my potential and wanted to see me succeed and thus pushed and prayed for my wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. As a child, series of unique experiences of being able to develop intimate and loving relationships with almost everyone in my community made me appreciate the influence of everyone on my life. It was not long before I realized that no matter how old or young, rich or poor, or educated a person was, everyone contributed to humanity’s niche…

I want to be awarded this scholarship because of my passion for learning and my drive to change the world. Currently, I attend Colorado State University and I will be entering my sophomore year. At Colorado State University I major in International Studies with a minor in Political Science. As such, I have a focus on the Middle East North Africa region and my goal by the time I graduate is to be fluent in Arabic. I want to learn Arabic because I believe learning languages is a way of creating tolerance. Because to learn a language you begin the process of understanding people and cultures. I am always asked what am I going to do with an International studies degree? I reply that I will spend my life traveling to learn as many languages as possible. And I…

My first couple weeks at The University of Alabama have certainly been a unique experience. I threw myself into the Southern culture by deciding to rush a sorority. In Connecticut, sororities are a fun activity that a few people join, and rush is a two, maybe three day process. Here, rush and sororities are a whole different ballgame. Door songs are easily the scariest thing on the planet. Recently a video of a door song from a different college went viral with captions comparing them to horror movies, and I know that it’s just a joke but I can see where they are coming from. Having hundreds of girls scream at you while you have to just stand there and smile is quite terrifying.…
