Christina’s World is a painting set in 1948 by American painter Andrew Wyeth, and one of the best known paintings from the late 20th century. It illustrates a woman lying on the ground in a treeless, mostly orangey field, looking up at a gray house on the horizon with barns and small sheds across from the house. The young woman in the painting is Anna Christina Olson. It is said she suffered from polio (a muscular deterioration) that paralyzed her from the waist down. Wyeth had a summer home close to Christina’s and was inspired to draw the painting after he saw her crawling through the field of her home. The painting’s wasted limbs and pink dress belong to Christina Olson. The youthful head and torso belong to Betsy Wyeth (Andrew Wyeth’s wife) who was then in her mid-20s. Although Olson was the inspiration and subject of the painting, she was not the primary ideal.…
The painting in the Mint Museum of Art Collection that I have chosen for my paper is titled Philip the Fair, by Kehinde Wiley. He painted this piece in 2006. He portrays a naturalistic style of an anonymous young African-American male model. It’s a larger than life painting standing one hundred and twelve inches by eighty-six inches tall. One must look up at the painting if not standing far enough away to view it entirely. This piece is an oil and enamel on canvas resulting in intense colors with a lustrous surface.…

Amanda Herring, from Loyola Marymount University, came and spoke to us about the Gate Keeper and Key Master Hekate of Lagina. For a little background, the sanctuary of Hekate was structured in the second half of the BC in Lagina Lagina was occupied by a single sanctuary at the time. The only people who lived on the site were people who lived in the temples. Hekate has a conspiracy over her origin. She first appeared in the literature, the Theogany. In this entry of poems, she had the the second most spaces dedicated her poem, being only after Zeus. This shows the relevance and impact she had in the Greek world, at the time. While walking through the Philadelphia Museum of Art, trying to decide which piece I should do further research on and write a paper on, I discovered The Crucifixion, with the Mourning Virgin and Saint John the Evangelist”. This is oil on panel painting by Rogeier van der Weyden in the Netherlands (historical name,15th-16th century), Europe in 1460. The time period that this was made in was Early Italian Renaissance. It is 71 x 73 3/8 inches. The vibrant colors in this painting is so enthralling that I could not help but be interested about it.…
During my first round of practicum, I went to a kindergarten classroom with around 20 to 25 students in the classroom. I went to Miller Elementary and Mrs. Schuchard was my cooperative teacher. I walked in and was immediately placed with students to work with. In the morning the students were working on their daily five and phonics. One thing that I observed that I found very interesting is that the teacher had two rug areas for meetings. When she needed to teach the children for a longer period of time, she would tell them to move over to the other area in order to make them have a brain break and then refocus. It was very interesting to see how effective just a little amount of movement was for these kindergarteners.…
