However, online school isn't as good as traditional school as students are isolated, they have less guidance from their teachers, and more easily lose motivation to do their schoolwork. A key part in school is students making friends and interacting with one another. Students are also involved in extracurricular activities with their peers. "Many young people enjoy activities like student clubs, sporting events and the prom, none of which are offered through online high schools" ("Online High School Vs. Traditional High School"). Yet in such a harsh time, online schooling presents itself as an opportunity that is more affordable, flexible, and faster than attending a university in person. Online schooling is more affordable because you don’t have to pay the school for lodging, digital books are made available for rent, and you don’t have to travel to get to the campus. Online schooling is flexible because you can do your homework whenever it is convenient for you. If you work in the mornings, for example, you can come home in the evening and do your homework in your available time. When you don’t have to attend lectures at a campus, you are able to read through the material, which allows you to get done at your own pace, and because the courses are more concentrated on the material, the semester itself is much shorter than the semester of those attending a brick and mortar school, which makes online schooling a faster way to get a…

I have both taken classes online and on campus. They are completely different atmospheres, but they also have things in common and I feel that you can gain a quality education from either source. When I first graduated high school I attended Westfield State College for about a half a semester until I got real sick and could no longer attend. Shortly after that I attempted to go to a local community college in my city and I just didn’t have the motivation to go to school anymore. It could have had something to do with the strict Catholic High school I attended. I guess I just didn’t want to go to school anymore. Fast forward ten years and I have now been in the military for eight years and I am ready to work on my degree. I am more focused now and with the economy I feel that it is important to have a backup plan because even the military is cutting back.…

Learners can process material at any time from any place (Paechter & Maier, 2010:296, citied by Artino & Stephens, 2009; Narciss et al, 2007). For students who cannot afford to take away from their time-dependent jobs, online programs provide flexibility in time and pace of study so that they are able to work meanwhile maintaining the universities’ academic commitment (Sharpe & Benfield, 2005; Conrad & Donaldson, 2004; Kruger-Ross & Waters, 2013). Moreover, by accessing a learning management system such as Moodle, Blackboard, course website, students can achieve clarity about their course information like assignments, test dates to the full extent (Kruger-Ross & Waters, 2013:181).
