Appropriate To Effective Delegation
“Delegation is the use of personnel to accomplish a desired objective through allocation of authority and responsibility” ( ref i p. 242). Delegation is a tool we have to be able to achieve some goals, but we need to know how to delegate and follow up to make sure that the task we delegated was carried out, because although we delegate the responsibility remains ours. We delegate to gain time for other activities, provide opportunities and experiences with other colleagues, save time and money, being cost effective for the institution. The delegation process is similar to the nursing process because we have to make an estimate to see who we can delegate on, make a plan view that we can delegate and how we will do it, in the intervention give clear and specific instructions and evaluation will check if it was …show more content…
The barriers to effective delegation include: overburdening staff, the person who wants to do the same and does not give opportunity to other colleagues even if it takes longer, not having knowledge of how to delegate, not knowing what to delegate. These barriers can be eliminated if we understand the concept and the process of delegation, accept that delegation is part of the work and sometimes we need help to meet the objectives. The guidelines to ensure effective delegation consistent; positive attitude to accept the processes, monitor the job we have assigned to make sure it was carried out properly, give clear and precise instructions so the other person will not have doubts, feedback is necessary to verify that the instructions were understood and this way the goals were achieved without affecting the patient's treatment or processes are
