As stated before, the previous ban on horse slaughter in America expired in 2011 under President Obama. This ban made the slaughtering of horses in America illegal, however it still allowed horses to be shipped overseas to foreign countries to be slaughtered. This ban was never removed, it just simply expired. In 2015 a new bill to ban horse slaughter was introduced to congress. This bill is called The Safeguard American Food Exports Act, or (SAFE). This act would alter many acts such as the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act, making all horse parts unsafe. This act in addition would also outlaw the export of U.S. horses and horse meat bound for slaughter and human consumption. Horse meat is most popular in France, Belgium, Italy, and Japan.…

Dr Martin Luther King Jr's “I have a Dream” speech and Old Major's speech in “Animal Farm” have many similarities with some contrasting presenting skills. Some of the qualities that the two speeches share include what they're fighting for, the wisdom they both share, and they want freedom for future generations, not just for themselves. They also share many rhetorical strategies involving ethos, pathos, and logos along with some propaganda forms. Although these speeches have much in common, they are different because of three main reasons. These reasons are what they think needs to happen to accomplish their goals, the way they present their speeches, and the attitude in which I hold while preaching. The speeches also use different forms of…

    Mary Poppins Speech

This year has marked the fiftieth anniversary of many historical events, including the Rolling Stones first headlining tour, President Lyndon B. Johnson’s declaration of the “War on Poverty,” plans for the World Trade Center were announced, and Mary Poppins debuted on the big screen. However, the story of Mary Poppins, the nanny who flew in with the wind and who advised the Banks’ children that a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down, began long before Julie Andrews appeared on the silver screen in 1964. It began deep in the mind of young Helen Goff, a brave thirteen year old who was left at home with her two younger sisters. Her father, a severe alcoholic, was dead and her grieving mother had gone in the dead of night to attempt to drown herself in a nearby creek. Helen wrapped herself and her sisters in a blanket by the fire, and began to tell the girls a fairytale about a magical white horse who could fly, despite his lack of wings. This was the first time that she had dreamt up a story, and twenty-six years later, she would produce a children’s novel about a character who, much like the white horse, could fly. It would later become a best-selling book and a 1964 acclaimed movie of the same name - Mary Poppins.…

The way society runs has changed drastically over time. Even now, the world is changing just one step at a time, starting from a single action that can lead to multiple acts to create a big difference. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell and the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr, both pieces convince the people or animals that make up their community to be hopeful for a better future despite the corrupted systems that devastate their society. In Animal Farm, George Orwell uses the character of Old Major to encourage the animals of Manor Farm to commence a rebellion against the farm’s owner, Mr. Jones, by informing them of the humans’ wrongdoings of exploiting the animals. In the “I Have a Dream” speech, Martin Luther King…

I’d like to begin by quoting Captain Paul Watson, “If you want to know where you would have stood on slavery before the Civil War, don't look at where you stand on slavery today. Look at where you stand on animal rights.” Throughout my presentation I ask that you keep these questions in mind: Is slavery no longer slavery when its not happening to humans? Is abuse not abuse if it isn't happening to your species? And, is murder not considered murder when its not happening to someone like you? If I ask all of you if you love animals, most of you would say yes. Yet its because of people like you that animals like pigs, cows, and chickens suffer and take knives to the neck every second of every minute of every day. Humans have victimized animals so much, that they aren't even considered victims anymore. We have turned living, feeling, breathing beings into inanimate objects such as shoes, and sandwiches. Every year on this planet 60 billion land and 90 billion marine animals are slaughtered without a second thought to feed the greed of humans. In the United States alone, there are more than 5,000 trucks carrying animals to slaughter houses where they will be hung upside down, and while fully conscience, have a bullet put between their eyes or have a knife slash their neck, all in order to feed a group of ungrateful humans who don't even need it for survival. Out of all the abused animals on this planet 98% of them are victims of the meat, egg, and dairy companies. If you consume animals, and the things that come out of animals, you are intentionally causing pain, and suffering. I find it unbelievable how a species that claims to know the difference from right…
