Ancient American Culture
Page 7, Question #4: The ancient cultures of the Americas had many great achievements, but I found the agricultural development the most impressive. Without any assistance from the outside world, the new inhabitants of the Americas were able to take nothing and make it into something. It is said that archeologists believe in modern day central Mexico, people began to plant corn, which they used in everyday life. It is believed that things such as gourds, pumpkins, peppers, and beans were amongst some of the next crops that were grown. I find this to be the most remarkable accomplishment because the people started from scratch, and there was probably a lot of them that had to experience in farming, but they found a way to do it and succeed.

One of the most important intellectual and technological accomplishments that helped shape Mesoamerica would be the development of chinampas or artificial floating agricultural islands. These were man made islands that connected to the mainland. Like stated earlier, they started to teach the young boys how to farm and cultivate the land, too. This helped the Indians harvest multiple crops at the same time, creating a never ending cycle of cultivation. The improvement of food gave the development of Tupperware time to be invented. Agriculture was an innovation that gave an opening to Pre-Columbian “Tupperware” and cooking tools and silverware. This type of intellectual thinking would give way for even more technological breakthrough. First, they used a plant as plates and dishes (even clothing and housing), then they upgraded to clay griddle maker (doc. 1, 2, 4, 7). Common workers made tools from wood for digging and bags for collecting the crops such as: maize, chilies, honey, ground grain, and cacao beans; often working on their bare feet (doc. 6,…

It is astonishing (not necessarily in a good way) that societies over a thousand years apart can have the same issues in their government and society. First up, let's talk about the "identity" portion of the recording. The similarities of cultural ignorance in the Ancient Rome and America is almost scary; we do not even know about how other countries function or even where they are even when we have the knowledge readily available to us.The Roman's lack of knowledge was a factor in their demise as a nation by simply underestimating a "barbaric" tribe; they, too, thought they were in the center of the world just like America. This reason may not directly lead to the demise of our country, but it sure it breaking/ weakening ties with our countries. Furthermore, something I would like to connect with this (not a part of the recordings) was that another reason why Rome fell, was that is rotted from the inside because of the lack of patriotism…

Before the Europeans explorers had arrived, the descendants of the prehistoric pioneers and later migrants - the Native Americans - had formed a variety of tribes throughout North America. Each tribe was related. Some were simple nomads who roamed through the west of the continent, while some were forest dwellers who worked as hunters and fishermen. The southwest region of North America was home to the farming people of the Pueblo country, inhabiting substantial cities of stone or adobe (clay). In the Four-Corners (Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico) area was where the Anasazi people (a.k.a. the “ancient ones”) were settled. Their culture began in about 100 BC. Along the Mississippi we villages of the Mound…

I was cold and snowing outside but we didn’t care about how cold it was outside we were sitting around the fire telling stories just like a happy family should do. The last story we told was the story of the birth of Jesus. Then right at the end where Mary and joseph were leaving the stables and fleeing Bethlehem for the safety of baby Jesus. Outside I heard sirens coming from all different ways, I was curious about what was going on outside the neighbors were all outside running down the street. We put on our coats and we too followed the crowd fire trucks passing us by. We got closer and the Johnson’s house was on fire they…
