Chad Morris’ The Inventor's Secret takes place many years into the future. Oscar Cragbridge, world famous inventor, has been kidnapped. His twin grandchildren, Derick and Abby, are on a quest to follow clues their grandpa left them in an attempt to save his life. Derick and Abby are attending Cragbridge Hall, an elite school that utilizes unique technology, developed by their grandfather, to teach the students. Derick, Abby, and their new friends, Carol and Rafa, soon discover the situation is much worse than they thought. The twin’s parents have also been captured, and to make matters worse they were sent back in time aboard the sinking Titanic! She believes she is just average. When she first arrives, her roommate asks her how she got into the school. She responds, “Oh. I do okay in school. I’m decent at track. And I was part of a service club” (Morris 26). Compared to the accomplishments of most students at Cragbridge Abby is very average, nevertheless Abby is very honest about it. Because honesty is one of Candor’s strongest values, she belongs in the Candor faction. Abby could have made up stories about her great achievements, her roommate cheated through life to become successful, but Abby isn’t like that. As a consequence of being honest about her accomplishments, her roommate kicks her out. The roommate believes Abby isn’t good enough to be at the school. Candor members tell the truth regardless of the consequences ("Factions (Divergent)"). Abby isn’t the kind of person that would lie to make herself look better than she really is, therefore Abby belongs in the Candor …show more content…
Because of his actions and characteristics throughout the book I see him as someone I would be willing to follow. Abby proved her honesty and loyalty on many occasions, and she is someone I would trust. Because of Rafa’s noble selflessness he is someone I could count on in a moment of need. Utilizing all of their skills, with Derick in the brave Dauntless faction, Abby in the honest Candor faction, and Rafa in the selfless Abnegation faction, the children are able to defeat their enemies and save the captives. Abby and her honesty end up showing her former roommate that she does in fact deserve to be at Cragbridge hall. Derick’s bravery proves vital in saving his parents and grandfather. Finally, Rafa and his selfless assistance play an instrumental role in helping the twin’s quest. The book teaches us that by utilizing the characteristics of a whole team they can achieve the seemingly

While the mysteries kept my attention, my favorite part of this novel was the characters. Todd is a delightful young boy who, while not overly troublesome, gets in his fair share of scrapes. His sisters Libby and Lilly Jean do not start off with much of a role, but they become more important as the novel continues. I found myself laughing with the family, crying with the family, and even getting upset for the family. To me, one of the gifts in writing is to be able to make your audience feel what the characters themselves feel. Ms. Ulmer makes this novel enjoyable by making her characters…

3.I like the main characters of my novel because all the main characters are the ones who went to the Carving (Mountains) to escape the society and find the rebellion group.I also like how Cassia and Ky take the risk of going out to the Carving knowing that they might be dead or their safe somewhere I can find each other at.They would be my friends because they are very adventurous and they take risks and don't leave their friends behind. When Cassia thinks about leaving the camp she makes up her mind quick because she wants to find Ky but if she thinks long about it she might want to go back to the society.’’If I'm going to run to find Ky,it has to be soon’’, Says Cassia as she thinks about leaving the camp. ‘’Am I going to run? Abigail Williams is the niece of Reverend Samuel Parris in Arthur Miller’s book the Crucible. Some people may think she’s just a normal girl but how can people be sure about that? Abigail Williams, age 17, is indeed a young girl, but she’s also an evil villain. Throughout the book, there are many examples to show how this is true. Abigail makes up lies to get what she wants, to get out of trouble, and to manipulate others. She also attempts a homicide just because she’s jealous. First of all, Abby manipulates everyone that tries to go against her in order to increase power. For instance, Abigail threatens the girls about what they did in the woods by saying, “Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. And you know I can do it.”(Act 1) This threat demonstrates that Abby has no limit, she…

Abby had many pernicious traits about her as we can tell. She was the complete opposite of Rebecca Nurse, a caring honest Christian that only meant well. From beginning to end Abigail never noticed her faults and by no means changed her misguided ways. “There be no blush about my name,” she remarked in the beginning of the story to establish how flawless she really thought she was. Abby thought she deserved John so much, as I stated earlier, that she twisted the minds of many people to get what she wanted. Abigail Williams does a great job of illustrating the complications that can be evoked by telling a lie. One lie can destroy a life. Abby starts by telling a few lies and she ends up killing so many innocent people.…

Falling into great peer pressure while facing threats from Abigail, Mary makes the courageous decision to tell the truth, but Abigail strengthens her grip and the truth crumbles. Mary knows the girls are lying but struggles with the imminent threats from Abby in her rebuke to Proctor, “She’ll kill me for sayin’ that!” (Miller 80). Mary gets this idea from the death threat imposed on her by Abby “and mark this. Let either of you breathe a word or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you” (20). Abigail scares not just Mary, but all the girls with threats. After trying to tell the truth, Mary succumbs to the torment of Abby. “Abby, Abby, I’ll never hurt you more” (119). The “pointy reckoning” that Abigail threatens Mary with does its justice and Mary morphs back into a powerless silenced girl.…

Other characters in the movie show how people are affected by the revolution. Sikes is an evil man who will do anything to get ahead. It is possible that he wasn’t able to make an honest or decent living because of the revolution. His fate seemed appropriate in the end. Nancy is unlike most characters. She isn’t completely good like Oliver but she isn’t complete evil like Sikes. In the end she ended up dying to help Oliver and I think that’s what made her character seem so selfless. I think her character was most believable because she didn’t lose her humanity like most of the others seemed to. There is also Dodger. It seemed to me that he was happy with a life of crime and saw it as the only thing he could do even at the end of the movie. Oliver on the other hand seemed to be an exception. Although he was abused and mistreated through out almost the entire movie he still remained kind and gentle.…
