Analysis Of 'Tear In My Heart: Twenty One Pilots'
1. “Tear In My Heart” - Twenty One Pilots
Molly Peskin-Suso has had almost thirty crushes throughout her life; however, she is very awkward nothing ever happens with any of them. Meanwhile, her sister Cassie is very social and outgoing—she has never been in a genuine relationship either. The Upside of Unrequited states, “There’s a reason I’ve had twenty-six crushes and no boyfriends. I don’t entirely understand how anyone gets a boyfriend” (Albertalli 15). Molly is seventeen years old and has been very disappointed that she has not had her first kiss. Despite this, she still get to have fun with her sister and friends—even when they all end up in a relationship. “Tear in My Heart says, “Sometimes you gotta bleed to know; That you’re alive and have a soul” (Twenty One Pilots 1-2). In the song, line “Sometimes you gotta bleed to know” relates to Molly because she often feels left out or depressed because she wants a relationship and none of her crushes ever notice her. Her grandmother is always putting her down in someway—whether it be her weight or personal life. The reason her grandmother does this, is because she was just like Molly when she was a teenager with the same weight problems. The Upside of Unrequited states, “She looks just like me, except old timey and beautiful. And she’s fat. When I look up, she’s gazing at me with an expression I can’t quite read. ‘I’m hard on you, aren’t I’” (Albertalli 333)? Molly’s grandmother showed her a picture of herself when she was younger and out of shape. This reminded me of the song “Immortals” when it says, “I’m still comparing your past to my future, I might be your wound…” (Fall Out Boy 19-20). Molly’s grandmother was very unhappy with herself when she was overweight; however, Molly does not want to compare her grandmother’s life a long time ago with her own. She wants to live her live the way she wants

Twenty One Pilots is an alternative/indie band made up of two members, Joseph and Josh Dunn. They are known to occasionally rap and include specific tempos and beats that correspond with each song’s thought provoking lyrics. In the song “Oh. Ms. Believer” by Twenty One Pilots they use the analogy of snow to describe a young girl going through depression. The band accurately describes the feeling of being trapped inside one's mind as they go through the hardships of this mental illness. Although at first this song may be interpreted as another cliché alternative hit, the meanings hidden beneath the lyrics are sure to tug at the listener's heart strings as he/she looks through the eyes of someone who struggles with a loved one who is depressed.…

The breakfast club has one of the most unique and memorable soundtracks of all time. Something that made the movie gave it such a memorable track and the movies “theme song”, "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by the band Simple minds. Something that the movie did that not none to many movies had done at that point. They used this song twice, once at the beginning at once at the end. The two times this song is played in this movie, each function is shown. It shows genre because the movie was release in 1985 and this is around the time new wave music (the song’s genre) became popular. It sets the mood both at the beginning and at the end of the movie. It sets mood at the beginning because of the tempo and rhythm makes…

In the midst of mourning and healing after the death of two beloved band members, The Allman Brothers Band released the album ‘Brothers and Sisters’ on August 1st in 1973. During the recording of the band’s previous album ‘Eat a Peach’ in 1971 Duane Allman, the lead guitarist and co-founder of the band, died tragically in a motorcyle accident. Heartbreakingly, the band had to endure the death of another bandmate, Berry Oakley at the age of 24. Much like the death of Duane Allman, Berry died mid-recording of the album ‘Brothers and Sisters’ due to a motorcycle accident just a few blocks away from where Duane’s accident occurred. Berry Oakley’s talent remained on the first two tracks of the album, ‘Wasted Words’ and ‘Ramblin’ Man’.…

There are wires growing out of everyone’s ears. That is, to listen to music. Music is an infinite source, whether that source is for lifting up spirits, expressing underlying pain and anger, or just merely a distraction. Music from well-developed Broadway musicals to a series of beats at a party, it is something we all have done: listen to music. Some even say that music defines us but it that really true? Is our music the soundtrack of who we each are? Do what we listen to support our core values in life? To answer this I sought out the one song I listened to most, “This Kiss” by Alex Days and Carrie Hope Fletcher, and interpreted its lyrics to see if it matched with my core values of commitment, happiness, and love.…

Blue Skies was written in 1926 by Irving Berlin, and was an instant success, with opening night demanding 24 encores of the piece from star Belle Baker. During the final performance, Ms. Baker forgot her lyrics, urging Berlin to sing them from his seat in the front row. In1927, it became one of the first songs to be featured in a talkie, when Al Jolson performed it in The Jazz Singer. The song was recorded in all of the major and dime store labels of the time. 1946 was also a notable year for the song, with a Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire film taking its title along with two recorded versions by Count Basie and Benny Goodman reaching #8 and #9 on the pop charts. Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye performed the song in 1954's White Christmas. Willie…
