Analysis Of Rosalind Franklin: Exploring Prejudice
My topic is Rosalind Franklin: Exploring the human genome and encountering prejudice. I chose this topic is because Franklin’s contribution to unlocking the secrets of DNA structure is easily one of the greatest and most important discoveries of the 20th century. Franklin managed to pave the road to the discovery of DNA structure even while dealing with the bias towards being a female scientist in her time then passed away from cancer which was most likely caused by the excessive exposure to the X-ray radiation she used in her research. I found Franklins story to be very inspirational and it fit into the guidelines of this years NHD theme very well in my

Have you ever asked yourself, exactly what is DNA and why is it so important? DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid and is found in every living thing. We inherit DNA from our parents, half from our mothers and half from our fathers. DNA is made up of sugars, bases, and phosphates and comes in the structure of a double helix which looks like a spiral staircase (Craig Freudenrich, 2007). DNA is found in the genes which are housed in chromosomes. Humans have 46 chromosomes; however, the amount of chromosomes varies from specie to specie. Except in the case of identical twins, DNA is unique…

Prejudice can be described as an opinion of a person based usually on race or religion before all the facts are known. Prejudice is an occurring problem during the twentieth century and is especially emphasized in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. In the novel, Harper Lee shows us the effects of prejudice on the ideas of the citizens in Maycomb County, more specifically social prejudice in some of the main characters: Arthur Radley and Atticus Finch.…

Rosa Parks faced many stereotypes. As an example, in a biography about Rosa Parks, “BIOGRAPHY”, you will find that Rosa Parks was an activist that was always fighting for education and civil rights. For example, in the Rosa Parks biography, “BIOGRAPHY”, it says, “Raymond…received little formal education due to racial segregation… He supported and encouraged Rosa’s desire to complete her formal education” (BIOGRAPHY). This evidence shows that stereotypes impact society because it shows how Rosa’s husband, Raymond, couldn’t complete his education since people didn’t think that African-Americans were important enough to be fully educated.…

Prejudice towards different people is a huge part of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird novel. Nearly every little mishap in the book has been somehow linked or caused by prejudice. Naturally, the town of Maycomb is affected by it, and the effect isn’t for the best. Prejudice is a destructive force in Maycomb, bringing nothing to the town. The cause of Maycomb being destroyed is prejudice spreading hatred throughout the town, separating the people, and excluding and enabling members of the town to fully get what they need.…

X-ray crystallography helped determined the three dimensional structure of DNA when Franklin returned to England. She became the first person to find the molecule¡¯s sugar-phosphate backbone while working with a team of scientists at King¡¯s College in London. Unfortunately, leadership misunderstandings and personality conflicts depreciated Franklin¡¯s effectivness in the laboratory. Maurice Wilkins, the laboratory¡¯s second in command, returned from a vacation expecting Franklin to work under him. Franklin came to the laboratory with the understanding that she would be researching alone. While Franklin was direct and decisive, Wilkins tended to be alluding and passive-aggressive. As Franklin made further advances in DNA research, Wilkins secretly shared her findings with the famous duo of Watson…

You asked us to read "Old Mistresses Apologue" to see how Benjamin Franklin begins as a solemn friend and adviser to a young man but soon reveals himself as a hedonistic lecher, then after reading you asked if we see any signs of a misogynist in Benjamin Franklin's letter. To begin I looked up the word misogynist to get a better understanding of what it meant. According to Webster's Dictionary, misogynist means a hatred of or hostility toward women, a women hater. After reading Benjamin Franklin's letter, it was hard to see Mr. Franklin as a women hater. I find him being finicky about his women preferring older to younger women being almost discriminatory towards younger women in general, but not actually a women hater. If anything, he has good things to say about women as a whole.…

I have chosen the topic The everyday nature of prejudice. There are many forms of prejudice. Some people are just born with or raised with a prejudice. During the war, Americans became prejudiced against the Japanese. They used racial slurs and violence to get rid of and exclude the Japanese. They were all moved to internment camps and some were killed. Families were torn apart. The Japanese were put through many hardships, and when they were able to return, they were only slowly accepted. The three main types of prejudice are Racism, Sexism, and Ageism.…

The topic I chosen is animal testing because to know why are animals are use for experiment and why people are against animal testing. Why does people use animal for experimental testing? Because you need some way of testing whether something is harmful, or if it does what is supposed to in a whole organism. Medical researchers need to understand health problems before they can develop ways to treat them. Animals are necessary to medical research when it is impractical or unethical to use humans.…
