Aluminum Bat Research Paper
The question analyzed in this experiment is, Which bat wooden or aluminum, hits a ball the greatest distance? This project was done to see if aluminum bats are really as dangerous as Major League Baseball says they are and why MLB outlawed players from using aluminum bats .
If aluminum bats have a greater trampoline effect than wooden bats , then aluminum bats will hit the ball a greater distance. This hypothesis is true based on the information gathered, from the aluminum bats. The first, second, and third aluminum bats ball averages were much higher than the wooden bats ball averages. This proving the aluminum bats hit the ball a much greater distance than the wooden bats . The aluminum bat has a flex when the ball hit the bat making

The goal behind this experiment was to estimate the distance a ball would travel after it falls a certain distance and bounces off a metal plate which has an angle of 45 degrees. To find this we had to take the basic equations for kinematics which are (1/2)at2=x and v=v0+at and combine them to make an equation that will help us solve for the distance the ball will travel after hitting the bounce plate. The equation came out to be R=g*(sqrt(2)/sqrt(g))*(sqrt(H)*sqrt(h)), as that g is acceleration of gravity, h is the height of bounce plate, and H is the height of where the ball will be dropped. After completing this experiment the result was that the standard deviation was +/- 2.3 cmfrom the average value of 26.5cm. This was used for each variable H was 20cm and h was 20cm. Also there 18 trials performed as well.…

The gummy bear project was to provide us with a chance to practice the statistics experimental design, through measuring how far the gummy bears fly from a catapult in centimeters. This catapult contains 3 different stages from which to launch gummy bears at different angles: front, middle, and back, as well as two different positions upon the catapult at either the front or back. Then, based upon each configuration, we launched the gummy bears 5 times, for a total of 2x3x5, 30 treatments.…

    Wood vs. Aluminum

Aluminum bats are also more durable than wood since they don't splinter or break. In an average season, any single baseball player can go through dozens of wood bats yet keep the same aluminum bat from beginning to end. For this reason, many amateur and little leagues opt for metal bats. While the initial investment is higher, aluminum bats will likely last a season or two, while wood bats are known to splinter and break fairly regularly.…

Baseball has been around since 1846 and wooden bats have always been the tool of the trade. There is much debate as to whether players should use wooden bats versus aluminum. Traditional wooden bats can make players feel connected to the historical game. As well, there are a few benefits to using wooden bats opposed to aluminum. Here’s a list of 5 baseball wood bat benefits:…

My research revealed three main points to me. One being that metal bats have a larger “sweet spot” than wood bats. The “sweet spot” of a baseball bat is a place on the bat where the ball leaves the bat with the greatest speed and the player's hands feel very little vibration from the impact. This is because a metal bat’s barrel can hold a uniform shape longer than a wood bat. This larger “sweet spot” provides a better chance for the ball to not only be hit but hit harder.…

When corking a bat you are changing how the bat acts when you hit a baseball. The “corking” of the bat causes the bat to have more flex when hitting a ball. In a wood bat when you cork it, you actually make the bat more than 1.5 ounces lighter when using corks. When a bat is corked then the…

Think about different materials that are used to make sports balls. Why don’t we use just one type of material for tennis balls, baseballs, and golf balls? Since each ball must behave differently in play, the material making up each one must be different, too. In this experiment, you will characterize how different materials behave when they are dropped.…

The goal of the lab was to make a contraption that if an egg was dropped from about 18 ft it wouldn’t break or even crack. We tried to absorb the force of the egg so that it wouldn’t hot the ground with too much energy. The contraption had a net made of yarn to catch the egg and not have it bounce too much; it was slanted slightly so the egg could roll down into a soft pile of cotton that lined the bottom of the box.…

What is an altered bat (also known as “doctored bat” or “juiced bat”) is a bat that has been physically altered from it’s “out of the wrapper” certified condition. (CincySoftball.com) Popular bat alteration include painting, end-loading, and shaving the barrel. Players, who are aware that the performance of composite bats tends to improve with use, attempt to shorten the amount for a bat to reach its maximum performance by employing the ABI (accelerated break-in). (CincySoftball.com) these characteristics of a bat are weight, inertia, and wall thickness. Instead it changes the properties of the bat how it flexes, and barrel stiffness.…

I also chose this experiment because i think it’s really easy to do by yourself and i have all the materials to conduct it. i also chose this experiment because i’m kind of like an expert in this topic because i have been in football for like 3 years so i think i know alot about the balls grip and how it affects the length. I think i will help out football players like Qb’s to know if a better grip will help it go farther.…
