The U.S. is a major contributor to global warming because it produces 25% of the world’s carbon dioxide. Proposed laws to reduce carbon emissions in the U.S. are urgently needed and should be enacted immediately to save the planet." I agree that we need to reduce carbon emission standard. I have discovered that the cause of polar bear drowning is due to global warming. I am glad that congress has passed the clean air act in 1970's.What worries me is how much amount of hydrocarbon is poluting the air today? I have discovered that VW(Voltz Wagon) has engaged in a diesal scandal, which violate the clean air that is still in…
Although the government has been putting a massive amount of work into preventing additional air pollution from being continuously produced and also trying to wipe out the polluted air that already existed, it is still the most challenging environmental issue in America.…
Additionally, concern is also focused and geared towards the economic and social struggles in the lack of environmental policy, including environmental racism and justice. While President Nixon created the Environment Protection Agency, others after him, such as President George H.W. Bush’s Administration revisited these victories by leading America to losses for it’s environmentalists. With so many failed attempts in gathering the loyal attention from the public in decades, and engaging them in how important and absolutely necessary it is in creating and maintaining an environment in which fossil fuels, carbon emissions, rises in sea levels, and hazards to aquatic life, are constantly fought against, there needs to be more strength in how the scientific information is shared. Additionally, the lack of consistency and cooperation from differing parties regarding the importance of climate change and global warming, especially in Congress, continuously hurts the work the United States can accomplish in combating climate change. Today, President Obama is criticized for his work towards environmental policy. However, the Obama Administration has been a leading force in the fight for a healthier and more green future, and that has been evident in the policies he has been pushing through with the Environmental Protection…
One thing that affects the atmosphere very much is cars. The pollution from cars kills animals, plants, and other organisms. (Document F) Organisms have to be rescued, if they continue dying, the world will be left with no resources. If people just walked instead of using a car at least a day of each week, many organisms would be saved. The government has many options they could take to reduce greenhouse gasses, for example The Kyoto Protocol. (Document K) The problem is that they don’t believe it is happening.…
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”), the increase in anthropogenic CO2 emissions has led to the increase in global temperatures in the past century . Because of the preponderance of evidence linking greenhouse gases and climate change, governments worldwide are developing policy to reduce CO2 emissions.…
Energy, natural resources, conservation—these are all hot topics in Washington today. But, to what extent should the United States government be responsible? America is in desperate need of a “green revolution” (Friedman). However, the problem is not only America’s; the entire globe suffers from the effects of global warming (graph). While it is undeniable that the American government needs to develop initiatives regarding energy conservation and anti-global warming legislation, would their effect be enough? Would the process be worthwhile? It would.…
Air quality is a measure of the amount of pollutants emitted into the atmosphere and the dispersion potential of an area to dilute those pollutants. It is a massive problem of urban living and remains one of the largest environmental concerns. Spatial dimension relates to how air quality differs between places at different times and under different weather patterns. Increasing population and demand for more goods puts greater pressure on air quality. The human population’s interaction with the environment relates to the ecological dimension. In terms of air quality this relates to the impacts of increased gases and particles associated with transportation, industrial activities, smoking, dust storms from over grazing on marginal land, bush fires and the burning fossil fuels . Many of these activities cause increases in carbon monoxide, ozone, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, lead and particles in the atmosphere. People get health problems due to these increases. For example, excessive carbon monoxide levels in the blood stream reduce its ability to transport oxygen. This in turn causes headaches and tiredness.…
The Los Angeles Basin is a plain that lies between the Pacific Ocean and mountains to the north and east. During the summer, the sunny climate produces a layer of warm, dry air at upper elevations. Southern California counties are where almost 15 million people reside. South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is a governmental organization established in 1977 to deal with the historically poor air quality in the area surrounding Los Angeles. Air pollution injures organisms, reduces visibility, and attacks and corrodes materials such as metals, plastics, rubber, and fabrics. The respiratory tracts of animals, including humans, are particularly harmed by air pollutants, which worsen existing medical conditions such as chronic lung disease, pneumonia, and cardiovascular problems. Discussed in our paper will be several key points that will highlight very important details in regards to the efforts to reduce ozone in Southern California. Topics to be discussed are; described the historical development of the issue, the stakeholder’s involvement in the issue, and the long term effects of the problem, the responsibilities that arise from the ethical position and try to find a solution to this major problem.…

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in 2000-2013, California was ranked as the second largest producer of CO2 emissions in the United States, behind Texas. Air pollution is an extremely difficult form of pollution to bring into the public eye for two reasons. One, because it is the introduction of microscopic molecules into the atmosphere, it is invisible and often goes unnoticed. Secondly, the effects of these pollutes can take decades of exposure to accumulate and see the true extent of its effects. Over long-term exposure, Carbon emissions speed up the greenhouse effect by trapping more heat in the atmosphere, increasing the risk for prolonged droughts. This process is largely linked to global warming, and is beginning to have devastating effects on California’s already dry and warm climate. CO2 emissions derive from human activities like the burning of gas, coal, oil, and fossil fuels, as well as through intensified land use for agricultural purposes (Castro, Huber…
Air pollution is a huge problem in North Carolina. We know this is a problem because “in 2012, North Carolina ranked 8th in the country for our high levels of toxic air pollution from coal-fired power plants” (“NC’s Air Quality”). Besides coal-fired power plants, transportation, paper mills, and industrial facilities also play a part in our air pollution (“NC’s Air Quality”). “North Carolina was a leader in protecting public health by establishing air toxics rules in the early 1980’s prior to federal oversight, but NC legislators in 2012 severely weakened those rules” (“NC’s Air Quality”). Since the legislators weakened the air toxics rules in 2012, North Carolina’s air pollution has increased greatly.…
The central theme of this document is how the federal government can use taxpayers money to control the climate. Climate control is an issue in the united states right now. More than 5 cities in California suffer from air pollution that can affect it’s citizens. This was and still is a huge issue that can change hopefully.Yeah some Americans hate taxes but everyone hates pollution.…
The Act has increased the nation’s air quality by decreasing the levels of many hazardous air pollutants including ground-level ozone and particulate matter (epa.gov, 2015). Furthermore, these improvements have made it possible for states to meet the national standards of air quality (epa.gov, 2015). Although emissions of carbon dioxide have decreased and the United States is making strides in becoming more electric and eco-friendly, air pollution is still a concern in many urban areas (epa.gov, 2015). This is because the government can pass as many laws as it desires but the quality of air will not change if people and corporations do not oblige by them. If the repercussions are lenient or loopholes can be found, corporations will continue to emit these toxic pollutants into the air. Additionally, China’s pollution being carried to the United States does not help matters either, since the U.S. government would not want to affect its already rocky relationship with the Chinese (cnn.com,…
Climate change is a global challenge that requires a long-term global solution in order to avoid environmental, social and economic dislocation. Greenhouse gases cause damage both within and also well outside the country in which they occur. Once emitted into the atmosphere, their impact is substantial and long-lasting, for both developed and…
