A target audience can be formed of people of a certain age group, gender, marital status, etc., e.g. teenagers, females, single people, etc. A combination of factors, e.g. men aged 20–30 is a common target audience. Other groups, although not the main focus, may also be interested. Discovering the appropriate target market(s)and determining the target audience is one of the most important activities in marketing management (Niewenhuizen et al. 2000). The biggest mistake it's possible to make in targeting is trying to reach everybody and ending up appealing to no-one. A target market is a group of customers that the business has decided to aim its marketing efforts and ultimately its merchandise. A well-defined target market is the first element to a marketing strategy.
Mass marketing is a market coverage strategy in which a firm decides to ignore market segment differences and go after the whole market with one offer. It is type of marketing (or attempting to sell through persuasion) of a product to a wide audience. The idea is to broadcast a message that will reach the largest number of people possible. Traditionally mass marketing has focused on radio, television and newspapers as the medium used to reach this broad audience.
For sales teams, one way to reach out to target markets is through direct marketing. This is done by buying consumer database based on the segmentation profiles you have defined. These database usually comes with consumer contacts (e.g. email, mobile no., home no., etc.). Caution is recommended when undertaking direct marketing efforts — check the targeted country's direct marketing laws.
Target audiences are formed from different groups, for example: adults, teens, children, mid-teens, pre-scholars, men, women.
To market to any given audience effectively, it is essential to become familiar with your target market; their habits, behaviors, likes, and dislikes. mass marketing, differentiated marketing, concentrated marketing, and nichemarketing.
Audiences can be classified along the following lines:

Demographic - Age, Gender, Class, Ethnicity
Psychographic - Attitudes, beliefs, interests
Geographic - where is the audience from, nationality, city

A – Upper Class (Higher managerial, administrative and professional, such as Mangers, Lawyers, all high paying jobs earning demographic would be around £50,000 and over)
B – Middle Class (Intermediate managerial, administrative or professional, such as deputy secretary and or above average pay, earning demographic would be around £35-50,000)
C1 – Lower Middle class (Supervisory or Clerical, junior managerial, administrative, such as a supervisor or highly skilled working job (one where more than one skill is required))
C2 – Skilled working class (Skilled Manuel workers, such as mechanics, etc)
Please note for C1 and C2 the earning range is for both £15,000 – 25,000
D – Lower working class (Semi and unskilled Manuel workers, such as mechanical trainees, or shop workers, earning demographic would be around £7,000 – 15,000)
E – Lowest level of income earners (pensioners or widows, casual or lowest grade workers, those on Benefits, such as students, earning demographic would be around £5,000-7,000)

This will engage that target audience because the customer will think the advert is directed at them and this will make them interested and may consider buying your products. Another way that a business can engage their target audiences could be having a good customer service, because by having a customer service that is helpful to people will make them feel confident using your company in the future and that company will get a good…

This week I read an article on three ways to define “Target Audience”, I found this article to be very interesting because it was not too long and was very informative. For instance, Kivi Leroux Miller stated that marketing and fundraising that tries to reach public, really reaches few people at all. She also pointed out that the public includes newborns, elders, rich and poor, very wealthy and even homeless. She says that even if you wanted to you could not possibly reach all these people, so the best thing to do is focus on those people who matter to you becoming successful.…
