AVID Reflection Essay
AVID has one mission, and that's to prepare every student for success during and after high school; AVID provides us with the skills and knowledge we need for academic success, however through the process we gain so much more. Via the program were provided with opportunities we wouldn't have otherwise. It has opened many doors for me and has kept me sane throughout my high school experience. Looking back, I can easily say AVID has helped shape me into the person I am today.

AVID has been one of my biggest sources of motivation to achieve my goals. I've learned to believe in myself and to constantly push myself to be better than I was yesterday. AVID has helped provide me with the information and support to convince myself that I can do anything I set my sights on. Seeing the price of tuition and seeing my parents struggle to make ends meet month to month, it isn't hard to start ruling out some of my top choice schools, however thanks to scholarships and financial plans Ive learned about through AVID, they don't seem that far fetched. I've learned that I can overcome any obstacle. Without AVID I don't think I would be as

With activities such as tutorials, SAT prep., book projects, Socratic seminars, and practice essays, we’re able to get ahead of our peers. However, AVID doesn't only give you academic support, it also provides you with the emotional support you need. AVID gives you people who guide, support and believe in you. Yes, we may have our family and friend, but they can't truly relate. Either they don't understand what we’re going through or they don't have the same goals as us. AVID has been somewhat of an anchor throughout my high school career. Whenever I'm feeling stressed or overwhelmed I know I can count on anyone in that classroom to help make me feel better. It's an amazing feeling to know that at the end of the day, no matter what I have my AVID

When I joined the Bridgewater-Raritan program in August, I did not know what to expect. I knew that band was going to be hard work and a lot different than middle school. Personally, I think I have gotten more out of being a part of the program than I did in middle school, both with my skills and life lessons. I remember one of my first days when Mr. Markiewicz said that we would build an unbreakable relationship with our instrument. I have to admit that when he said that I giggled a little and said “yeah right” to myself. I hate to say it, but Mr. Markiewicz, you were right. I have grown to love practicing; I can feel my fingers responding faster, my air intensity increasing, and my mind becoming more alert whenever I pick up my clarinet. I can look back and see how much I have improved since the last note I played as an eighth grader, and I smile a little bit, knowing that this is only the beginning of my development in music.…

After reading “I just wanna be average” I think that it has helped open eyes. You never know what class, instructor, or program will spark that flame within yourself. I feel as though I will now go into each class, event or program with a more open mindset. Not letting myself place limits on what I can do, and listening to those around me who are able to recognize my desire to succeed. I decided to go back to school after 11years for a multitude of reasons; I want to receive my Associates degree and move on to get my Bachelors in order to not just advance my career, but also to show my son who is looking up to me that nothing is impossible. As long as you have the will and desire you can reach your goals even if they were delayed, it is never…

Not only are students enrolled in their school's toughest classes, such as honors and Advanced Placement, but also in the AVID elective. For one period a day, they learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college seem attainable. Their self-images improve, and they become academically successful leaders and role models for other students.…

I was in the Color guard program and sports medicine. It taught me life long lessons about being dedicated and how to collaborate effectively with others. Through brutal practices and stressful competitions I rose to the top, knowing that if I believed I did the best that I could have every single time. Yet, these program taught me information on the human body while working. I also am a part of outside Culinary Art activities such as catering events to learn things such as budgeting and organization, that I may use to later in life to be more efficient with things such as money. Its like having a job, you may not be getting paid money, but you're paid in experience that will be seen as work effort to others who need a good employee. Even though I sacrificed most of my time into these programs I still took time out to relax and reflect on my choices and create a balance mindset between who I am and what I want to be and grow from that to improve my weaknesses and exhibit my strengths. I create daily goals to achieve this mindset so that i'm never left lost about my identity.…

Growing up, I have always struggled in school, the work and the classes never interested me. I never had the freedom I wanted to broaden my abilities. I’m the student who always told herself, “just 180 days to go, just suck it up and get it over with”, and currently, that is what I am doing. But now, as a senior in high school, I finally get the freedom I have been longing for to do and achieve what I want with my life. The first step, picking a school that’s going to be right for me, a school that’s going to give me the tools I need to be the best I can be, and now after typing that, it sounds really cliché, but it’s true. The Fashion Institute of Technology is my key to the life I want. While it can offer me with possibly the best experience of my life, I can offer it an open mind to anything and everything.…

    Advantages Of AVID

The goal of AVID is to assist students into getting accepted to a 4 year college. This is accomplished through various ways, some of which are helpful and others which, are quite frankly a waste of time. AVID is not a perfect program but it does offer some advantages such as fee waivers for the SAT and ACT which encourages the AVID students to take those tests. Another clear positive are the AVID tutors which greatly assist the students when it comes to overcoming difficulties that they may face in their other classes whether it be practicing for a test or learning new material. I do feel the that the TRF’s were over complicated, we couldn’t just ask our tutors for help when we needed it but it was mandatory. This meant that many students…
