FIT College Essay

Growing up, I have always struggled in school, the work and the classes never interested me. I never had the freedom I wanted to broaden my abilities. I’m the student who always told herself, “just 180 days to go, just suck it up and get it over with”, and currently, that is what I am doing. But now, as a senior in high school, I finally get the freedom I have been longing for to do and achieve what I want with my life. The first step, picking a school that’s going to be right for me, a school that’s going to give me the tools I need to be the best I can be, and now after typing that, it sounds really cliché, but it’s true. The Fashion Institute of Technology is my key to the life I want. While it can offer me with possibly the best experience of my life, I can offer it an open mind to anything and everything. Throughout my life I have either been called too quiet or too shy, it’s been my weakness and every day I try to get through it. But it’s not that I don’t have anything to say, it’s that I have too much to say. Yes I’m quiet, but my thoughts are loud, and one of the ways I’ve managed to get my voice out, is through photography. My photographs say the words I want everyone to hear, but don’t say out loud. To me photography isn’t just something you do, it’s a part of you. It’s all you, your vision, the way you see the world, it’s something that can cause a million words or none at all. Being from a small town in Texas, I’ve always been taught to sit down, shut up, and do what others tell me. Whether it’s my parents or teachers, I’ve always gone with the flow, and blended in with the background. I’ve got too comfortable with my life, secluding myself from others, and withdrawing into my shell, but I’m appalled by it. I’m tired of blending in with the background, and doing what others tell me is right. My town is like a black hole, if you don’t leave as soon as possible, you will stay, have a career you are not happy with or end up having to get a daily fix of
