AMA Code Of Ethics

Most organizations have some sort of code of ethics. These codes are the basis on how such organizations operate. This paper will compare the ethics codes of The Associated Press and The American Marketing Association. The AMA has a relatively short statement of ethics. The statement includes three key ethical norms. First, no one shall commit harmful deeds. Next, members of the organization need to have faith in the marketing system. Members must contribute to the efficiency of the exchange process. Lastly, AMA requires everyone to follow the organization’s core values. The core values are as follows: honesty, responsibility, fairness, respect, transparency, and citizenship.
The AP statement of news values and principles is more complex.
The overarching message in both codes is that their members should always be honest, accurate and respectful. Comparatively, AP’s mission seems to focus more on releasing reliable new stories. Whereas, AMA strives for honest marketing. Furthermore, the AP statement is more thorough. It seems that there are more ethical matters relating to news stories than marketing strategies. All things considered, some items in the AMA’s statement are interesting. The value that stood out most was citizenship. As an organization, they dedicate themselves to bettering the society along with the market. They pride themselves in reshaping not only the market but also the people in the community.
Comparable to the AP and the AMA, I have my own personal code of ethics. My first code is honesty. I strive to tell the truth in every situation. Secondly, I value responsibility. I commit to remain accountable for my actions. My third code is respect. I strive to treat everyone with equal amounts of respect, no matter who they are.
