A Career As A Veterinarian
The name of my career I want to pursue in is zoo/wildlife Veterinarian. My reason for studying this career because, I love animals and care for their well-being and want to be another person that actually be there to make a wonderful difference in their lives. The history behind being a veterinarian and veterinary medicine goes all the way back to 3000 BC Urlugaledinna and Mesopotamia where they were "experts in healing animals" doing veterinary practices. later on in 1761 it was the founding of a veterinary school in Lyon, France by Claude Bourgelat that was said when veterinary practices started. At first the veterinary profession was focusing on horses, and over time the interests of the profession spread to cattle and other livestock, …show more content…
Duties of being a veterinarians are caring for the animals and working to improve their health. They diagnose, treat, and research medical conditions and diseases of pets, and other animals. The typical duties veterinarians do are, examine animals to diagnose their problems, Treat wounds, Perform surgery, test for and vaccinate against diseases, use medical equipment, such as x-ray, and tell animal owners about how to care for their animals, medical conditions, and treatments, Prescribe medication, Euthanize animals veterinarians treat the injuries and illnesses of pets and other animals with a variety of medical equipment, including surgical tools and x-ray and ultrasound machines. They design and administer animal and public health programs for the prevention and control of diseases transmissible among animals and between animals and people. Research veterinarians is part the work I will be working in laboratories, conducting clinical research on human and animal health problems. May perform tests on animals to identify the effects of drug therapies, or they may test new surgical techniques. how to prevent, control, and eliminate food- and animal-borne illnesses and diseases.
Most vets complete a bachelor's degree before entering veterinary school, and the doctor of veterinary medicine program takes another four years of schooling. Vets need courage when dealing with animals that bite, kick and scratch and to work long hours or at night when animals get sick. If they work with large animals, they need physical strength and also require manual skills to perform surgeries on animals, you should have a mind for science and for biology. Admission to veterinary school requires completion in math, chemistry, organic chemistry and physics, and biology.
