5.1.11 Appropriate Use of Consultants
Sometimes, inadequate use of either internal or external consultants can cause failure of ERP system. In order to be sure that ERP system would be implemented successfully, organizations should use experts who are trained in ERP implementation methods and have the requisite experience in applying these methodologies (Anand & Maleki, 2008). Due to the complexity of ERP implementation project, the appropriate use of external consultants with application and installation expertise is considered as a critical success factor (Bhatti, 2005). However, it is also important to make arrangements for transfer of knowledge from external consultants to the organization so that dependency on consultants can be decreased

The progress of the project should be properly monitored through set milestones and achievements should be measured against project goals (Nah, Lau & Kuang, 2001). Two types of criteria may be used to evaluate the project performance: (a) project management-based criteria to measure the performance against completion dates and costs and (b) operational criteria to measure performance against the production system (Frimpon, 2012). It is very important for project champion and top management to maintain a high level of employee morale and motivation during the project execution. The team leader should create a stimulating work environment and recognize the work of the members (Finney & Corbett, 2007; Zouaghi & Laghouag, 2011). Motivation and rewarding system would result in high level of staff retention and on-time completion of tasks (Soja, 2006).
