Thesis: The show 16 and pregnant could be glamorizing teen pregnancy Three main reasons. 1. Not long after the show started all of the girls on the show was being put in tabloids and magazines.
2. Teenagers are watching the show and thinking that if they have kids at there age they could become famous.
3. Teens may envy the shows stars for their fame and fortune and wish to become pregnant in hopes of earning the same success.
Thesis Statement
Television has changed over the years. When television first started, foul language, drugs, and sex were unheard of. Shows like Family Matters and Full house were ranked high popularity because they were considered family and friendly shows. Now days, most kids probably haven't even seen an episode of Family Matters. I guarantee if you ask a large number of 14-16 year olds if they have seen an episode of MTV's "16 and Pregnant" the majority of them would probably say yes. As a teenager myself, I have watched the show. I think it glamorizes teen pregnancy.
The show 16 and Pregnant made it's first debut in 2010, After the show started the girls from the show were getting all kinds of attention. They were being put into magazines, going on tv shows, being stalked by the paparazzi. The show is supposed to be discouraging teen pregnancies, often times it can be seen as doing the opposite. It's like MTV is glamorizing teen pregnancy. They are getting paid to be pregnant, getting endorement deals, and even becoming models. MTV pretty much has brought teenage girls into fame that have kids, which those girls are being supported by different teenage girls all over the world.
Teenagers are watching the MTV reality show, thinking that if they do the same thing those girls are doing they could get the same amount of fame and become on MTV. GIrls in the real world don't get attention for being pregnant. It's like the show is giving out a positive feedback. Most people may not think it's true but the show affects teenage girls more than you think it does.
16 and Pregnant is giving teenagers the wrong idea. Parents let there kids watch the show without even watching themselfes. These girls are getting pregnant before they are ready. The show is influecing. I don't think it's realistic. It's not portraying what a teen mom is really about. They show them having drama, having ups and downs, and even having fun, But what they don't show is all the sleepless nights, all the lonliness, dirty diapers. ect. The girls get paid to where they can live in nice apartments and hardly any of them have jobs. What kind of example is that putting out for teenagers?
I understand that some people think that the show has a good influence on teens. I can understand that. It does show what it is like to be a teen mom to a certain extent. That's it not fun to have to cancel plan with your friends because you have a baby. Or can't go to prom because you have to stay home and take care of your baby. So it does to a certain point give out a good influence.
The show is impacting lives of young girls, Whether it be a positive or negative. If someone watches the show they should only watch it for entertainment and not feel as though they have to act in the same manner as the stars. Parents should be taking a stand and start talking to there kids and telling them that it's not okay. Teenagers should understand that being a Teen Mom, is not all fun and games and you can't recieve fame from it. Be responsible teens, and be safe.

Personally, I don’t watch reality TV, but there are a lot of young viewers that do.
