Thirteen Days to Midnight
Patrick Carman
Carman, Patrick. Thirteen Days to Midnight. New York: Little, Brown and Company, 2010. Ha Chette Book Group
Patrick Carman is a well known author in the mystery genre. He also has spearheaded many author outreach programs.
My book is about this 16 year old boy’s life. His name is Jacob Feilding. He goes to Holy Cross High School. He was adopted around his 14th birthday by Mr. Feilding. One day while he and his adopted dad are driving to the coast they have a wreck. Jacob survives without a scratch on him while Mr. Feilding died. Jacob believes that he has been given a special power by Mr. Feilding that makes him indestructible. And he figures out all you have to do is tell someone else that they are indestructible to give them the power. So he and his friends Milo and Oh go around and try to save people’s lives. But after awhile they discover that this special power is actually turning Oh into a zombie. They must kill Oh over and over to bring her back to life. My favorite character is Milo because he seems like the only one of the group that can think straight in tough situations.

I can definitely relate to Jacob from the book. He just wants to make the right decision and save people’s lives but he messes up sometimes and gets yelled at. I try to make as many people happy as I can but it never ends up working out for everyone. There is always someone that is going to be harmed by your actions. Jacob also is a high school boy dealing with a bully. I can relate to this in many ways. I have had people try and bully me but I’ve stood up for myself just like Jacob and Milo.

I enjoyed the book. I usually don’t like to read but this book had me wanting to read. I like how the story had many twists and turns. There was no time where I knew what was going to happen next. My favorite part of the book was probably when Milo and Jacob were in the smoke shop and found the secret box. This was my favorite part because it

Having now finished the story, i would like to say that my overall impression about the book hasn't changed much, it was still a dry and boring book with a plot line that didn't seem to climax much at all but instead had a steady pace with a litte bump here or there. Many will say that they hated the end of the book but I think the book was ended like that with a certain purpose in mind, to make us think what was this book about and why did it end like this?…

The book begins with the rescue basically, of this young boy named Dave Pelzer. During an examination by the school nurse Dave said he ran into a door, the nurse reminds him that he said that the week previous. Dave then changes his story saying he was playing baseball and got hit by the bat accidentally. This leads to the nurse examining Dave further, having him take off the torn clothing and revealing the scar on his stomach from where his mother had stabbed him. Dave is brought to the teacher's lounge and a police officer asks him to tell of his mother and the abuse and he hesitantly did so. The chapter then ends with the police officer taking Dave to the police station and while going down the highway the officer tells him he is free and…

My initial response once I read the first third of the book was that I am really going to enjoy it. I thought that because it has a very strong plot which makes it very interesting for me to read. I like how the author gets right to the point, but still makes you think about what is going on in the novel. Another thing that made me think it will be a good book is that it is very realistic so I can relate to what’s happening and really understand the things going on.…

It may be a cliché to say that a novel was impossible to put down. But this is true in case of the novel “No time for Goodbyes” by Linwood Barclay. This best -selling novel has its high point at the beginning where we are told that a teenage girl wakes up one day to find her parents and her brother missing. This not only awakens the curiosity of the reader but is also a fascinating plot as it is the reversal of the traditional ‘child-gone-missing’ theme.…

Collins creates amazing characters that the readers build close relationships with. If later on in the story one of them happens to be killed, it brings a sense of loss. I would definitely recommend this book to those who enjoy science fiction, action, adventure, and even a bit of…

What I liked about the book was that it was full of interesting and odd facts. These facts were so peculiar and odd because it was virtually impossible to work them out. What I also liked about the book was that you were able to learn a lot about the scientist that have carried out great investigations over time. I think the only negative about the book was that it was a long read and took a lot of time for me to finish reading , it would be better if some of it was shortened down to make it quicker to read.…
