What is hand hygiene?
Hand hygiene has several actions that are intended to decrease colonization with transient flora. You can have good hand hygiene by thoroughly washing your hands with an unmedicated detergent and water or simply water alone. You can also practice hand disinfection. Your objective with hand hygiene is to prevent the cross-transmission by removing dirt and loose transient flora. What is hand disinfection?
With hand disinfection, you are trying to achieve the similar goal of preventing cross-transmission to decrease colonization with transient flora. In this procedure, one would add an antiseptic agent to the detergent. You use an antiseptic solution to clean your hands, either with medicated soap or alcohol.
