What actually reading is? Reading means the action or skill of reading written or printed matter silently or aloud. Moreover, it is also mean as the process of constructing meaning from written texts. Hence, it is not a skill that students must learn separately from other processes. Reading skill combines many complex activities include categorizing, building key terms and concepts for a subject, measuring one’s reaction to a subject, making new connections, abstracting, figuring out significance and developing arguments. When I was in high school, I had to take some type of comprehension test every year. I guess it was for students who were registered as English being there second language. I never really understood the concept of understanding what I am reading or writing. When I was in high school the only books I had read were the “Hungry Games” and “A Child Called It”. Other than that I never really read anything else. During my last year of high school my English class read some Shakespeare book. Shakespeare was probably the most difficult reading I have ever done. I hardly understood what I was reading. Reading Shakespeare probably did not have much of a great impact in my reading since I did not understand anything.…

Learning English as a foreign language has been prevailing in China for a long time. Since the national language in China is Chinese which is different from English in many ways, and there is no English-speaking environment, English is mainly acquired through school courses and in the classroom context. Therefore, in recent decades, many Chinese researchers are borrowing and adapting some Second Language (L2 hereinafter) theories from the west, which can guide English teachers to better develop the English proficiency of students. Among various L2 theories, motivation is universally acknowledged as an important factor that affects L2 learning, and it also has been drawing much attention on the part of Chinese researchers.…

Abstract “Give me a fish and I eat for a day. Teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime.”This proverb taken from Chinese culture is associated with learner autonomy. Once learning used to be the matter of receiving the body of knowledge which could then be used for the rest of life. But such view has been nonsense in this fast-paced world. Therefore, the learners should be provided with the skills necessary for the lifelong pursuit for knowledge. This article begins with the general concept of autonomy and goes on to consider different aspects of autonomy. It insists that learner autonomy does work in any culture provided that the teacher also has autonomy to some extent and curriculum is designed accordingly. While it highlights that total autonomy is neither feasible nor desirable in formal language learning contexts, it argues that learner autonomy is necessary for making someone lifelong learner.…

When I was young, when I did not know anything, then I was just a poor child. I do not remember very well, but I wasn’t too patient and ordinary when I was young to concentrate on something. I tried to work hard anyway though. Especially studying. I was not interested in studying at elementary school. It was the most boring thing to listen to the lesson contents which one I did not know. Studying with the feelings of elementary students was not my priority. But my favorite subject score was good. I liked art and music since I was a kid. I enjoyed my grades and above all, I could study fun. Therefore, I thought how good it would be to be interested in other subjects that were stressed. It was now that I first pledged to confront English. But…
