1.1 Background of the study
Signal Marine Shipyard Corporation (SMSC), located at Cabu, Brgy. Tambler, offers wide variety of services in ship-related problems such as ship building, ship repairs and maintenance. The slipway facility, which can accommodate a 2,000-ton vessel with 8 and 100 meters length, features a rail foundation, steel carriage, berthing pier, machine shop, fabrication area, administrative office, warehouse, canteen, power house, water tank, two dolphin units and mooring bitts which are used for anchorage.
SMSC uses manual system in operating their business, from manually writing the job order details which was taken manually from the customer’s work order, then submitting the job details to the General Manager for approval. The monitoring of their project’s materials is also done manually. And like any other company, Signal Marine Shipyard Corporation seeks opportunities to improve they’re business’s operation. Since, technology today is considered as a tool to aide businesses in improving their operation thus; they are willing to invest on technology that will help them achieve their goals and become more efficient and effective.
Through this system, the needs of Signal Marine Shipyard Corporation in monitoring usage of project materials would be catered.
