I currently work in the Education sector, working in a Customer Service role as Supervisor to a team of 2 job sharers. One is leaving on completion of his Masters to join a government body (I have not included him in the study), but in order for the team to be successful and efficient I would like to develop knowledge and skills to identify development needs and planning for achievement. Acquiring these newly acquired skills will enable me to plan for the new member of the team.
I have carried out questionnaires/assessments for myself and colleague (y). We have discussed the results from the Honey & Momford and SWOT analysis (Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats). Areas for development and support were identified, together with support mechanisms. I have reflected on my own opportunities for development and I hope I have made it easy for my colleague to do the same. Throughout the assignment I will discuss the above material under the given headings:-
1.i) Technique to identify learning style
I used the Honey & Momford questionnaire. This consists of 80 questions designed to make obvious “learning habits” (observations).
The results of the questionnaire, indicate that my colleague is an ‘activist’, among many traits an activist will try anything, and also enjoys new experiences. She also scored highly as a ‘reflector’, which indicates that she likes time to think and likes to research things thoroughly. Whereas I also scored highly as a ‘reflector’ (similar tendencies) and also as a ‘Pragmatist’. Of the many traits, I like to link theory with practice, and see results. It took 20-30 approximately minutes complete the questionnaire, these results will be analysed in Section 2.i) below 1.ii) Technique to identify a development needs analysis
