I strongly agree with the statement “there is no literature without conflict”. It applies well to the play Antigone by Jean Anouilh. The most significant conflict exists between Antigone and Creon the king. Despite this major conflict‚ there is also another minor conflict between Antigone and Ismene. Conflicts do not have to be between two people. A good example would be whether or not to obey the law‚ when Antigone decides whether she should take the risk and try to bury her deceased brothers.

specifically evoked through the language of the characters in the play‚ for example in Antigone‚ the use of the chorus‚ the messenger to report the violence to Creon‚ and the words spoken by Creon and Antigone throughout the play. The essay shall also be looking at the event and the interruption – how Antigone serves as the interruption of the continuum of Creon being untouchable and seeing the violence that interrupts as progressive for the play and not just negatively. The creative act shall also be spoken

political and analytical roles the chorus plays in this scene and how Creon supposedly acts in favor of the state by not according Polynices a proper burial. The chorus has a dialogue‚ which serves as a direct comment on the action of the play bringing to the scene the political scenario of the society and the consequences of disobeying the authority that is the head of state. Even though it seems the chorus is siding with Creon and giving large support to following the laws of God and of man‚ they

The world of the Greeks was based on the "divine laws" set by the Gods who were the rulers of the land and who promoted people to heaven or hell. At times‚ Creon‚ the city’s new leader‚ followed the rules‚ but in most cases went with what he felt was good for the state. Antigone on the other hand created this mindset thinking that if the God’s divine law is not followed all bad will happen‚ which in the end really did happen. The first example to support this theme of Antigone was when Antigone

struggles with the new King‚ her uncle Creon‚ as she strives to do right by her dead brothers. On the other hand‚ “Medea” takes place in the city of Corinth. The protagonist is Medea‚ wife of Jason. She also faces an external conflict; she is rejected by her lover and plots inane revenge by murdering the children they both love. In these two Greek tragedies‚ both Antigone and Medea struggle with external conflicts. Antigone faces conflict with the antagonist‚ Creon. Antigone breaks the law in order

his throne. “Was this your own design or was it Creon’s” (page 4). When Tiresias refuses to tell his prophecy Oedipus starts to get mad and accuses Tiresias of working with Creon. Oedipus is paranoid that creon has always been working against him that he starts to accuse other people even prophets that they are working with Creon against him. This all relates to the quest for identity because Oedipus while dealing with the plague in Oedipus he is also searching for who is and who isn’t against him

this one scene‚ is used to tell the audience that the prophet Teiresias was correct. The first line of the Messenger in this excerpt is that both Antigone and Haemon are dead‚ and that the those who are alive‚ Creon‚ are to blame. This satisfies the part of Teiresias prediction of Creon losing the one from his loins as a result of his actions. However‚ the prediction does not end there‚ rather it is said that another will also die. After this excerpt‚ it is revealed that Creon’s wife has also

all his trappings of power‚ Creon finds himself helpless‚ unable to act on his own. He wants not to execute Antigone but cannot help ordering her death. Having said yes to state power‚ he is circumscribed by his own kingship‚ by very the throne that makes him the master of the land. He has surrendered himself entirely to the state and knows his circumscription all too well. Unlike Antigone‚ he has completely ceded his desires to take upon the mantle of governance. Antigone The song I chose to represent Creon is Pray by Sunny Hill. The song pray fits Creon because in several lines of lyrics fit regret and guilt of what Creon had done. A couple of the lines from the song related to Creon asking for Tiresias help but then not liking the answer‚ for example "Someone told me to pray to dream‚ that it will come true no matter what it is. Tell me everything- look at me and tell me‚ tell me to please stop." Inside Creon knew Tiresias was right telling him that punishing
