Why Students Cheat in Exam
According to Oxford English Dictionary, “cheat” defined as act dishonesty or unfair in order to gain an advantages. Whereas exam cheating refers to the situation where students break exam room rules and behave dishonest to their exam paper with the purpose of achieving a good result in the examination. Nowadays, students cheating during the examination become a social issue in our country. There are some reasons why students cheating during examination.
First and foremost, students cheat during examination because they want to get a good score in their examination. They are cheating in order to get a good score so their friends and relatives will not looking down on them. For example, a student cheating during the examination with the aim of getting good result so he will not isolated by his friend. Students want to get result in examination because they don’t want to be punished or scolded by their parents. Moreover the students want to get good result in order to fulfill their vanity. They want the people around them to praise and feel good to them.
Besides that, students cheat during examination because they are lack of high self-esteem. For students who with low self-esteem only dare to cheat during exam time. Students with high self-esteem will feel ashamed to cheat on the exam. However, students with low self-esteem do not feel embarrassed and do not feel anything wrong with their cheating behavior. These students even will feel proud with their good marks as a result from cheating during examination. They choose the way of cheating during exam instead of trying to study hard and do revision as much as possible.
In addition, peer influence is also one of the reasons why students cheating during examination. Peer is the most important factor that might influence the behavior of a teenager. Teenager likes to follow up with their friends so they are not isolated by the group. When students see their friends getting good result by cheating, they will follow
