Today in placement I was asked if I would be able to assist Mrs X with personal care and dressing. Mrs X has advanced dementia and takes a lot of prompting to do simple tasks on her own, such as washing her face. Mrs X is fully mobile and needs a lot of support to hold her concentration on particular tasks or she is more likely to be distracted and wander off. Being aware of Mrs X’s needs I agreed that I am more than confident to assist her. I knocked on Mrs X’s door before entering, and went in. I explained to Mrs X that I was there to help her with her daily routine on waking. Mrs X appeared to be happy with me being there, and was talking away to me like she had known me for years, but most of her sentences did not make…

Confidentiality involves trust. If trust is not gained, then it is highly likely that information will be shared. Confidentiality is about controlling the spread of information by anyone working with children or young people. Unless in exceptional circumstances e.g. a child is at risk from harm, should personal information be discussed. Personal information must only be disclosed with the permission of the person concerned or parents/carers and to others who have a professional need to know. This complies with law on Data Protection Act 1998 as well as laid out in Child Protection and Safeguarding. The Data Protection Act covers both paper based and electronic records and is designed to prevent confidential and personal information from being passed on without a person’s consent.…

In my setting we have a lead safeguarding officer who is the nursery manager, recently my manger has had some prolonged time off and therefore it has become my duty to step into this role as lead safeguarding officer. I am aware of safeguarding and have some knowledge in this area although through looking at my training needs analysis and stepping up into this role it has made me realise I lack confidence in this area and need support. I am able to recognise when a child is at risk but need to build a lot of confidence around acting upon this through my own judgement rather than consistently needed advice and support EYTS (2013, S7:3) although I do understand when it comes to safeguarding issues advice and support from others is essential providing it is within reason and kept confidential. During my time at my setting I have dealt with some safeguarding instances as a support for my manager and parents. I am aware that my safeguarding training certificate Is now out of date and it is f great importance that I take part in a new training course to refresh my knowledge so I am able to act upon legal requirements regarding safeguarding and am more aware and confident in promoting the welfare of the children in my care EYTS (2013, S7:1). Also as I am now deputy officer in charge and lead practitioner within my setting I am aware that I will need to take part in a higher level safeguarding course as I have only took part in level one, I am now looking into doing my safeguarding level two for room leaders and management. By taking part in this training I will be more confident in employing practices which will help to promote the children’s health and safety within my setting EYTS (2013,S7:2). I have put this on my action plan to complete by April of next year which I feel gives me time to find the correct course suited to my needs and the needs of the children that I look…

When I am able to learn and grow from this feedback it helps me to improve in this field. When dealing with people we are always going to face different personalities either with the clients or coworkers. With good supervision and taking the suggestions I am given and observing the behaviors and actions both physical and verbal of my supervisor and other professionals will help me develop in this profession. Marcela is always professional and I have never seen her become upset or even seem rattled regardless of the situation that may arise. Since I am still new to this line of work I can only hope that I to may show the calmness and politeness that I have observed by my supervisor. When things do come up I do respond in a professional manner but still inexperienced I get that slight tenseness in my gut so hopefully this feeling will reduce as time goes…

The right to confidentiality is guaranteed partly by the Data Protection Act 1998, partly by the Human Rights Act 1998, and partly by principles established by judges on a case by case basis (the common law). The Data protection Act 1998 sets out eight principles which are in essence a code of good practice for processing personal data. Your workplace policies and procedures will be based around those principles. The Human Rights Act 1998 details the right to a private life. There is also the GSCC code of practice for social care workers, which provides a clear guide for all those who work in social work, setting out the standards of practice and conduct workers and their employers should meet with regards the handling of information. Communication is a fundamental relationship-building skill in the workplace. If people don't communicate well they can create conflict. It is important that I show respect to those I work with. Individuals will expect my attention to be with them when carrying out my duties. If an individual asks me a question it is important to answer it otherwise they may feel they are not being taken seriously. The general social care council’s code of practice states that communications should be conducted in an appropriate, open, accurate and straightforward way. By communicating in this manner others will have trust and confidence in me and my abilities. Workplace relationships become a lot stronger when people can clearly and effectively communicate what they need.…
