I) ELL Stage II: Grades 1-2 (Listening and Speaking)
A)Per-Emergent Level – This student is at the level of no communication in English.
1)To help this student learn how to speak and listen in the English language this student needs
to learn how to say a new object in English. This will help the student to start to practicing their
English and it will help them formulate the English language and will into help them to speak in
English. B)Emergent Level – This student is able to understand a little bit in English and can conduct a conversation nut very little.
1) This student still needs help with learning phrases and other vocabulary words in English. To
help this student, this student needs to practice English with a student that has more
understanding of the English language. This students needs to try and conduct a conversation
with another student in English everyday. Along with this activity this student also needs to do
an instruction where the teacher is having the students follow along in English. Where the
teacher is having the students repeat after the teacher. For example: The teacher starts off by
saying the book is on my head and then the students copy and repeat. C)Basic Level – This student is able to use parts of speech and simple verb tenses to make a correct sentence in English when speaking.
1)This student still needs practice when forming correct sentences in English. This student will
be shown pictures. Then the student will first ask to name objects they see in English. Then the
student will be asked questions about the pictures to them help them develop the English
Language. D)Low Intermediate Level – This student is starting to formulate sentences in English correctly but is not always constant with the with using the parts of speech and subject agreement.
1)This student still needs practice when forming correct sentences in English. This student
needs to still practice speaking English with a student and with the teacher. The teacher should
have the student watch a 5 to 10 minute YouTube video (In English) about something the student
is interested in. Then the teacher will ask the student a series of questions about the video to
help them develop the English Language.
E)High Intermediate Level – This student is able to formulate sentences with with using the parts of speech and subject agreement correctly.
1)This student will watch Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. After the story is over the student
will then explain to the teacher the series of events that happened in the story. This student will
not be asked a series of events the student will have to explain what happened in the story.
II)ELL Stage II: Grades 1-2 (Reading)
A)Pre-Emergent Level – This student does not understand any of the text in English Language. 1)This student needs to learn the alphabet in English that is the first step. Everyday the student
needs to go over the alphabet until that student can say and identify each letter in English. The student will not only go over the Alphabet but will also learn the ABC song to help them learn the Alphabet.
B)Emergent Level – This student is able to identify the letters of the Alphabet in English but does not know how to read words or texts in English. 1)The next step for this student is to learn each sound of the alphabet in English. Starfall.com is a great resource to use to help students learn the sounds to the letters. This should be done until the students know all the sound to all of the letters. C)Basic Level – The student is able to identify each sound to each letter in English. The students are able to put the sounds together and read words. 1)The student needs to practice reading words every day. The student needs to read stories with pictures in them to...
